Xbox 360

Just saw the final design, apparently, of the new xbox this morning at gamesradar.com. It looks quite strange but impressive at the same time. Very futuristic. Can`t wait to get my hands on one of these. It`s just a shame that xbox 1 has had such a short lifespan even though microsoft claim to be supporting it until 2007. We`ll have to wait and see. Roll on xmas time!

i think that the x-box has had far too short a lfespan too. i think technology sometimes (_in terms of consoles) moves far too quickly.
i read that the x-box 360 will come in two versions - a standard/cheaper version minus any backward compatibility, then one for an extra hundred quid with a hard drive and the backward compatibilty. to me its crazy not to make all versions compatible with x-box games!!

PS2 was released Jan 2000 (from what i can find) 5 years ago! Your computer is obselete after 6months!

XBOX i can`t find a release date for, but i`m pretty sure its 3-4 years old too, which is still pretty old in terms of technology.

this post was not "bashing" you, but the consoles have been around for ages!, please dont get offended :)

The Xbox launched over here in March 2001.

Considering the quality of the hardware, the third party software backing and the critical (and western commercial) success, it`s a catastrophe it`s being replaced so soon.

3-4 years a long time in terms of technology - yes.
3-4 years as the life of a successful games console - f*** no.

The first party titles will dry up completely by the end of the year. The big third party development houses will want to work on the new technology, which will probably amount to little more than striving to perfect near photo-realistic graphics and extra processing oomph. Something i`m happy to wait til the tail end of next year for. The Xbox has little chance of making it through til the end of 2006 (in terms of a healthy new release catalogue).

Microsoft can take their 360 and shove it. I`ll quite happily continue to buy all the Xbox games i missed first time around.

There was Nintendo guy saying that their rivals seem to want to bring out new consoles too quickly.

It seems too quick to me to, I mean it takes time to bring out the best of the console, as the developers get used to it.

I remember on PlayStation 1, playing Tekken, thought it was amazing, a year or so later Tekken 2 came about, blew it away, then 3 a few years later, again, an incredibe visual improvment over 1!

This year on my GC I`ve been playing RE4, then there is Killer 7, and new Zelda to look forward to, so plenty of life yet, I won`t buy anything until my GC games have all dried up, and all 3 next gens are out.

I`m glad I`m not the only one that thinks this too. Xbox 2 (or 360) is coming out way too quickly. You can justify a PS3 console, as the PS2 barely holds its own against the Xbox in terms of power, but a new Xbox console so soon after the original?

I don`t doubt that it will sell, but I can`t see myself hurrying out to buy it the day it comes out almost out of principal. Maybe I`ll wait til the day after. ;)

But seriously, I won`t get one til they`ve been modded. :D

Oh my God, Bear is driving! How can that be?

If you`d like to see a picture of it go here:

http://gamesradar.msn.co.uk/news/default.asp?pagetypeid=2&articleid=35512&subsectionid=1586

No sooner had these images hit the `net, Sony announced that many of the developers that had committed to Xbox 360, had jumped ship and gone over to PS3, which apparently is going to be that much more powerful!

I agree with the people saying it`s far too early to release a new Xbox. I`m a Gamecube owner myself, and while I understand it`s not as popular as PS2 etc, I`d be well miffed if a new Nintendo was coming out this year. All the hardcore (rich, stupid) gamers forums are really excited but to me they haven`t pushed the original Xbox enough to justify releasing a new one. It all stinks of trying to steal a march on Sony, and it`s a game they won`t win.

Yeah, I know all about the Revolution, but it`s not supposed to be due until late 2006. It`s not ideal, but it`s better than a release this Christmas. Also, Nintendo are notorious for not releasing new systems simultaneously world-wide, so potentially it could reach us here in the UK in 2007! There`s plenty left in the Cube (play Resident Evil 4 if you don`t believe me) to keep everyone happy `til then. Not to mention the forthcoming Zelda.

I`ll certainly be keeping an eye on the Xbox360 though. It does look good.

Not a dreamcast owner are you? The glory days for the DC was after it had been declared dead. Homebrew emulators, DivX players and morpheus were like Dreamcast nirvana. Even if you couldnt get on t`internet, all the games were a fiver or less in gamestation. Headhunter...Shenmue..... all classics. Now with BitTorrent i can play crazy obscure japanese games that I wouldnt have had a chance with earlier. Train Driver simulator anyone?

I think the days of the original playstation (came out in 1994 (:O) and was around 6 years before it was replaced) are over. I think this next gen could have been held off a bit longer. I think that we have got to a place where designers are no longer really limited by the hardware (see doom 3 on the xbox). I dont think weve seen what the xbox can do. The industry should be driven by the designers, not the technology (see the PC hardware market at the moment. there are like 2 games out that test a PC. The hardware market has outgrown the softare).

But, it seems like a weird decision to me. On the one hand, yeah, you cant be beaten to market and everyone wants theirs out first. But on the other hand, consoles are notorious loss leaders until the tech is established. When the xbox first came out MS took at hit of like $100 per unit. They maka their money back through fees and games sold. Not that its a worry for them, but I dont think theyve squeezed every penny out of the XB1 yet.
