Page 1 of PSone to PS2
Gaming and Consoles Forum
Ok heads up guys my son & heir is getting a PS2 for Christmas, he already has a PSone & additional Sony controller, non Sony memory card, PSone - SCART connector.
I assume the controller(s) are compatible, but what about the cable & the memory card?
All input gratefully received.

You can keep the PSone controller (although the PS2 controllers are button pressure sensitive, but this isn`t always required in most games). So its good to keep the PSone controller for two player. The Memory card can also be kept, this will be needed if the kids want to save while playing PSone games (PS2 Memory cards arn`t compatable with PSone games). You`ll get all the cable`s you`ll need with the PS2.
Hope that helps.
P.S If I may make a suggestion, the Eye Toy this Christmas is going to be massive. Fun for all the family. :)
the scart will work no-probs, however i don`t think the memory card will
work with ps2 games as the ps2 memory card uses a different system tho it uses the same type of slot, also the ps2 controllers are fully analogue (including the buttons) were as ps1 controllers are digital (apart from the thumbsticks). it`s been a while since i had my ps2 so i may be wrong, tho i`m sure someone will let me know if i am :D
edit- DOH lee`s post apeared whilst i was typing this.

Thanks guys, :) we have the beast with the eye toy 8) (see the PS2 package @Argos thread).
I wsnt sure about the memory figured it could work but may write in a different format to PSone, ie use bigger blocks - Guess we will find out on the day (Currys & Comet less than 100 yards away & open on Boxing Day for the sales if required)
A SCART lead was bought for my daughters PSone & I now seem to recall it saying PSonePS2 compatible on the packaging. So looks like hes ready to go. :)

Still avoiding the harsh reality of revision.
You`ll definately need a ps2 memory card for ps2 games. ps1 memory card for any ps1 games being carried over to the new console.
Play have some good prices on memory cards for ps2 and gamecube right now.
LOL tripod (can I call you that) get your nose back in the books. ;)

Rassilon63 I am in the same situation as you ( upgrading kids ps1 to a ps2 argos deal ) and can confirm that in my 2 hour ;) test of the console /eye toy - well I had to make sure it worked didn`t I ? - the old ps1 scart was used and was ok but didn`t think to try the memory or controller but if you got the argos deal you will have had a 2nd controller anyway.

Alas I didnt get the "full & combined" Argosjungle deals despite my best efforts, but I suspect all will be well on the Big day (if it isnt Comet & Currys literally sit on my back door & open on Boxing Day). Thanks for the update :)

You definitely need a PS2 memory card if you ever want to save data from PS2 games.
You should keep the PS1 memory cards for playing your PS1 games.
PS2 games only work with PS2 memory cards, PS1 games only work with PS1 cards. It`s that straightforward.
