What`s the best long lasting board game?

elephant (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 11th September 2003, 11:09

Hi there,I may seem a bit nerdy here........but what`s the best board game with not mega complicated rules but plenty of room for strategy and that can be played at Xmas with family or to one side with the father-in-law.......(apart from the `usuals` like Trivial Pursuit).
I`ve heard Axis and Allies is a really good war game to get.....without having a 400 page rule book? Anyone played it? I would like one with infinite re-playability....not like Millionaire where the 1000 questions are over in 2 hours..:)
I played that one with the different categories including clay modelling and it was sheeeeite.U`d used all the cards after 2 goes.
About 15 years back I bought a war game called Hard Top about the war in the Pacific.I`m sure sending the Shuttle into space has a smaller guide book than this monster ........needless to say it`s been in the cupboard gathering dust and dead wood lice for 14 years and 363 days........
Cheers guys and gals.

Theres a game called Dipolmacy which is very much like Risk, seems complicated at the start but soon becomes very easy to understand.
Great game as well.

`Go` or Baduk as its also known is an incrediably rich and layered game - simple in concept, yet hard to master...
