Page 1 of Getting an XBox on Line
Gaming and Consoles Forum
I have been umming and arhing about his and thought i would take the plunge. I already have a cable modem through NTL, but when i phoned them up and asked about it they said it was a £30 set-up fee and an extra £5 a month on top of the £25 i already pay. Then i would have to buy the starter kit (£35) and an online game. (£40)
What i wanted to know was
1) Is there anyway around the NTL charges such as setting up a home network or something similar??
2) What good sport games are available online on the XBox??
3) Is it worth shelling the £100+ out just to get started??
In my opinion NTL and those other companies charging extra monthly fees are taking the P. I use Pipex, so I can`t help you there as it works through a BT line.
Sport game wise, mainly american sports only at the mo, eg fever. Midtown madness 3 is supposedly brilliant online, not out till 27th in uk and moto gp 2 (excellent title)
£35 starter kit gets you a year `free` of xbox live. Also remember though that Xbox live will cost you about £39.99 for a years service once your first year is over.
"Is it worth shelling the £100+ out just to get started??" Depends if you like the games available, check em out, if they don`t interess you don`t bother. If you wait a bit, prices may fall as PS2 online provides more competition.
rather than starting a new thread i need some help with the above question, My pc is linked to my BB connection via a bt voyager wireless network adapter which connects to the router in another part of the house, there is no chance of hooking the xbox up directly which would have been preferable, what i was wondering would i be able to connect the xbox to my pc and utilise the internet connection i am using via the network???
First question to ask is what OS your PC is running.
If you`re running Windows XP then you should be able to turn on Internet Connection sharing on your PC on your Wireless connection and connect your XBox to your PC using a crossover cable (this will need a network card in your PC).
Your PC will then give out 169.x.x.x addresses on it`s new NIC and to your XBox and the XBox should be able to use your PC`s outbound Internet Connection.
I`ve had this working with a PC connected to an ADSL modem using an internal switch to connect PC to XBox and Internet Connection Sharing on the ADSL connection so not exaclty the same scenario as you but I can`t see why it shouldn`t work.
Hope this helps,
Yhandi.
Great, will be using xp when get new computer (98 at moment) so will give it a go :-)
