X-Box Purchase??

WRPT B.A. (Competent) posted this on Friday, 31st January 2003, 09:43

Hi folks,

I`ve been thinking about upgrading to Next Gen for a while (my PS1 is far too 1998!) and the X-Box has caught my eye ever since it was released. I think i`ve convinced the missus about it, but I need pushing over the edge myself.

I`m big on FPS`s and driving games, so I think the £200 Halo, Splinter Cell bundle is the way to go, and theres easily enough to keep me entertained, i.e. Timesplitters 2, Project Gotham, Burnout 2 (soon).

So what I need is for all those x-box addicts to just give me a push in the right direction, and convince me to buy. All stories of supremacy over PS2 gratefully received.

Cheers

I most definately am not going to get into one of those "my console is better than yours things!" We have had all 3 now (PS2, GC & now Xbox) and all I can say is that we are more than happy and far more impressed with the graphics, games and DVD pic` quality from the latter. There`s a great range of games out (Unreal Champ.. etc) and they`re all plummeting in price now too. It is an ugly lump but then you`re meant to be looking at the screen not the unit when playing? Still miss Mario though but just getting in Ty and looking forward to Dr Muto coming along soon. For the litle feller naturally!

Hah u big wuss Flyer, bottling out of a nice potential slanging match wih the PS2 fanboys :)

Naw as the bloke in the original post mentioned the Splinter Cell/Halo pack is a rather good buy. The games on console itself is improving with many a good game out or on the way (yep PS2 has more but how much longer has it been out!) XBox live is a rather well put together service and well worth the £40 for a year if u`ve got broadband and once more games come out it`ll only get better!

and if that hasn`t convinced you then I`ll just have to use the good old Jedi Mind trick..../me waves hand in front of your face "You want to buy an Xbox...and me a nice new BMW"

Go for it!

I own an XBOX and PS2. I had a Gamecube briefly but lack of games and nothing I like coming out made my mind up in selling it off.

I am not into games the way I was when younger, but the XBOX is the only thing I play (excluding the PC with my game of the year, Mafia) where the PS2 is gathering dust.

Splinter Cell is great and it will be interesting to see if the PS2 can come close to the XBOX version especially when the game has so much excellent lighting effects.

The dvd playback is amazing and runs riot around the PS2.

PS2 may have more games but really there are about less than 20 of any quality.

XBox is the way to go

What is a fanboy?

Fanboy = someone who like one thing (in this case console) above all else without acknowledging the good aspects of other similar items. The usual way to identify them is by what they say, usually stuff along the lines of "Xbox sux, PS2 rulz" etc... they always fall back on the same old arguements as well such as "PS2 has loadsa games, Xbox has Halo!" or the age old classic "All other consoles suck cos they dont have GTA!!!". Then of course if the do get into an arguement for longer than a few lines they tend to go off in the huff or just keep repeating the same drivel. Of course fanboys have always been with the console wars, even back in the Sega vs Ninty days and the arguements then were just as bad!

Yes, but not all fanboys are like that. Just the majority. I prefer the PS2, but don`t think of myself as a fan. The console is right for me, and if I couldn`t have it, I would have an X-Box. But the Gamecube does sux much ballz ;-)

Anyway, I don`t play games that much, just for stress relief or a p*** about. I`m a Star Wars fanboy, and none of you beeeeeeatches can touch my holy quadology of brilliance with that other "alright" film TPM.

Oh dear...TPM and "alright" do not generally go together unless it`s "Alright I`m about to burn my copy!!!" :) Such a poor poor film....but anyway! :)

Back on topic - I`ve already had a PS2 and there really was starting to be a distinct lack of decent new titles on it before mine died of "overuse", as much as I liked some of the games (VC wasn`t actually one of em!) I`d alraedy bought an XBox by this point and had no real hesitation just ditching the rest of my PS2 stuff rather than getting a replacement. GC, well there really isn`t any stand out games on this for me...Meteroid Prime, maybe, will see what like but then I dont buy a console for one game...
