Is FOTR cut on DVD/Video ?

stephen harris (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 22nd May 2002, 19:13

I just had a look at the BBFC website and noticed that LOTR- FOTR, is quoted as 171 minutes 1s long on the Video list, but at the bottom of the entry, it says the movie was 181 minutes 44secs !

Is this another running at different rates thing or has it been cut ?

Sounds like an awful lot of time has been cut from this movie in it`s transfer from film to video. I was always under the impression that there is usually a 6 minute difference between the two but in this case there is nearly 10 minutes. Could be a mistake I suppose but then I`m not bothered about the Region 2 release as I`m going for Region 1 in this instance.

It is not cut as the BBFC site states. The difference in running time is due to the fact that PAL (our system) runs 4% faster than the film in the cinema or NTSC(R1 format). I have to admit though that the difference should be more like 8 min not 10 but the BBFC hasn`t cut it. Maybe Peter jackson created a new version with changed credits. I don`t believe he changed the film.
