With all these companies flooding the market with this software that can burn a DVD onto CD-R by just using your CD Writer and DVD Rom. Do they really work? or is using a DVD Writer is the best? Let us know what problems or good things that have you encounted with one or the other, or both, then cast your vote on which one get your thumbs up.

Burning a DVD onto a CD-R is limited to, at most, 20 minutes playback in true DVD format (so-called "miniDVD") : only a limited amount of players (eg Sampo) can play back this format.

The compromise is to burn it as a VCD or SVCD.

Me, I`d opt for a DVD burner : the Pioneer DVRA04 is the one :-)

Yes, they work by drastically reducing the quality and burning in VCD format, which most DVD players can read. Nothing special.

In other words, It`s a con trick - these companies blatantly misrepresent the product`s capabilities in order to make money. Fact is, if you want to convert your DVDs to VCD you can get FREE software for this purpose - just visit http://www.vcdhelp.com for details. You don`t have to line the pockets of snake oil salesmen.

Of course, it`s no substitute for having a DVD-R writer.
