Moulin Rouge Extras DVD won`t play...??

dwaine (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 6th March 2002, 13:03

Anyone else having problems getting the 2nd Moulin Rouge DVD to play? I can get the movie to play fine, but the 2nd DVD with all the extras won`t work...!

Can anyone help? I`ve got the Grundig 620-HT player, and have multi-regioned - mind you, the DVD is R2, so should be fine.

Hmm.....works fine on me trusty old Scan 2000 I`m afraid, which won`t help you at all. Does the disk look ok? (scratches / other marks) Otherwise, I`d probably just start the process of getting a replacement, especially if Disk 1 works fine. May also be better if you ask this in the Software Forum - not being arsey or anything, but these Moderators can get very picky...:-0)

i had the same problem running the extras disc on my creative PC setup.

Even swopped the dvd for a new one with same result.

Wrote to fox and got this reply

"Hi, Howard.

Michael had forwarded your e-mail to me, and I wanted to get back to you with a response on this issue.

In order to diagnose this problem, I ran a program called MEI Verifier on the multiplexed bitstream (all of the data that the disc consists of). MEI Verifier is used to insure that
the format is fully within DVD specifications, and it is a tool that many facilities use to determine if the title has any problems. When I ran it through this process, the title
passed completely, with no warnings, and no errors.

With DVD spec compliance ruled out, the problem is likely one of 2 things -

1. A hardware issue (from either the ROM drive or the decoder card)
-or-
2. A software issue (the Creative DVD playback interface)

Hopefully, this answers your question (somewhat). If you have any further questions, or would like some more insight into this, please don`t hesitate to ask.

Sincerely,

- Andy Clark"
