Page 1 of Paranormal Activity
DVDs & Films Forum
Anyone seen it yet? I`ve been wanting to see it for a while now and with UK release over a month away I couldn`t wait any longer, as by the time it`s released it will be exam time for me so won`t have the time to go, so probably won`t get a chance on the cinema run anyway.
I watched it last night after hearing all the hype from America and thought it was really good.
For anyone who hasn`t heard anything about it

A young couple suspects that their house is haunted by a malevolent entity. They set up video surveillance to capture evidence of what happens at night as they sleep. Their surveillance and home videos have been edited into the 99 minute feature film "Paranormal Activity"
Which in fairness doesn`t do it much justice, as doesn`t sound that interesting/original but it`s really well done.
The most interesting thing is the fact it`s doing so well in America where it`s fast becoming one of the most profitable films in a long time.
It was originally made in 2007 for $15,000 and was bought by the studio with intentions of remaking it and has sat on the shelf for the past few years, with nothing happening. They then decided earlier this year to show it at a few university campus cinemas (I believe, was definately a limited showing on few screens) but basically the hype was so much that they`ve now given it Nationwide release over there where it`s making big money and getting generally favourable reviews.
After watching the film I can`t comprehend what need the studio executives thought there would be for remaking the film, as basically you`d guess the film would be the exact same but with a couple of different actors in?
A sequel has been greenlit and it is bound to be Blair Witch 2 job :(
Although in slightly related news, [Rec] 2 is apparently awesome. :D They don`t appear to have set a UK release yet though >:(

I watched this at the cinema in USA a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Im assuming you`ve watched the download - it has a different ending that to be fair prob fits in more with the tone of the movie but for me I much preferred the cinema ending.
Probably going to watch it on Monday night, trying to avoid hype.

Just read what the alternate ending was and the cinema ending and without seeing I can`t give definate answer, but reckon that the original ending (which is what I saw) better suited the film and was less Hollywood.

I personally wouldn`t watch the trailer to the film before watching it as having not watched it first reckon a few bits in the film your just waiting for throughout the film.
Also it is far from one of the scariest films ever made, but is good at building the atmostphere of what the f*** is going on.

I`ve just watched the movie, and for all the hype it`s been getting, I was a little under whelmed. It was good, but not worth all the hype.
There were scenes that were a bit creepy, and the emotional rollercoaster that the couple go through were good in places, and it was certainly better than Blair Witch, but on the whole it's not a film that I would watch again.

Just watched it myself, a few goosepimple moments that work better for me watching at home rather than in a packed cinema, mainly during the final 30 minutes. Watching it alone with my back to the living room door just ups the ante as the mind starts to imagine how something could creep up behind me. This is the kind of thing that does creep me out, as opposed to traditional stalk and slash movies.
Iust looked up the cinema ending as opposed to the downloads original ending, and that is more what I was expecting.
Meh.
Not scary in the slightest, and the acting quality really plummeted in emotional scenes.
I guessed the ending SPOILER:
the first time she stood by the bed, except I thought she was going to go downstairs and come back and stab him in bed at the end rather than him go downstairs. I think the alternate ending where she cuts her own throat would`ve been the most shocking. . The SPOILER:
exorcism video was just hilarious.

That SPOILER:
exorcism scene was stupid, also the scene with the SPOILER:
ouija board setting on fire was over the top, as well as the SPOILER:
burnt photo in the attic, how on earth would a ghost physically bring that from one house to another?
What puzzled me was, why did the paranormal activity only happen at night time, why not during the day as well?

I thought at one point that the activity was starting later and later, so that it would lead up to all hell breaking loose at dawn, but no.
