Page 1 of Robocop
DVDs & Films Forum
Yey, Robocop is out tomorrow.
Question is....
is it as good or better than the US version? It`s apparently the complete film, or so I`v eheard.
I`ve also heard about the criterion (spelling?) edition. What is it and do I want it rather than the UK version out tomorrow?
Hope someone knows...
I don`t have a clue
The Criterion is OOP (Out Of Print) and no longer available on general sale, unless you scout the auctions of course where it`ll co$t a lot. The UK discs are now uncut and feature as much of the film as the US version.

Hope this helps,

The Criterion disc may be out of print, but it is still available to buy at Amazon.com and other online stores.

It is fairly expensive, and costs as much as the UK box set on its own. It is however in the director`s approved ratio of 1.66:1 and features his extended cut of the film.
The UK box set looks good at first glance, but it depends on your view of the sequels. These have a decent enough picture, but only surround audio and no extras (well, a trailer).
Robocop includes both the theatrical and director`s cut versions of the film, using integrated branching. Note that they don`t say seamless, as it`s not. You get 4 layer change type pauses throughout the film as the disc accesses the different layers, and it is annoying.
The picture quality, while anamorphic, isn`t up to much and it`s in 1.85:1. The 5.1 mix isn`t mixed as well as it could have been, and it has way too much bass in it at times. The extras are quite good though.
Still, if you don`t like the sequels you might be better off waiting for the proposed R1 special edition of Robocop, which should be available to buy indpendently of the other two.
the criterion edition is a very sought after item and is worth s***-loads! to be honest if you can afford it, id get both.
I badly want Robocop - but I dont want to buy the trilogy, and Im not spending my years wages on the Criterion Edition!
All I want is the directors cut of Robocop!!! Why did they have to release all 3 in a boxset - someone said above that a special edition R1 is coming out........ WHEN!!?!?!?
i got the box set £24.99 asda.
however the sound is absoluteley terrible on the first film, muffled quite
and a layer change at 11 mins ??.
not happy at all may get refund and get the us version.
Dont think it is layer change at 11 mins.
It is the first branching scene -deleted scene.
Causes some players to react like layer change.
Picture quality is ok --sound is average.
Got it for £20 yesterday --worth that for the commentry.

I agree, the sound is terrible and I don`t think the picture is particularly good either.....seems a bit dark to me.
As for the Criterion edition being worth s***-loads, it`s only worth what someone will pay for it. It is still available online from Amazon.com for $35.99 (about £25) plus shipping.
