Let the Right One In - Blu-ray question...
I know there was major subtitling issues in the US on this, and that the distributor (Magnolia, I think) had agreed to re-release the BD with the proper subtitles. Does anyone know if this has happened, as I`m keen to buy it, but I obviously want the correct translation.
Any ideas?

This is the distributers statement, from a dvd website regarding the subtitles problem,
Quote:
We have decided that based on the feedback that we will be making a running change, so that going forward (once inventories deplete), we will be making that subtitle version available. Options in set up will be; English Subtitles / English (theatrical) Subtitles / Spanish Subtitles
So basically you`ll be waiting a very long time until every single stock has run out.

You could always get the Swedish BD, but it`s fairly expensive. The UK Momentum disc is due on the 3rd of August. The cinematic subs were correct and I plan on trying to get confirmation from them that the home release will be the same.

Cheers guys. I think I`ll wait for the UK release then, rather than importing. Looking forward to rewatching it!

Well, Momentum have f***ed it up as well! The advertised Master Audio track is not on the disc and there`s an encoding error in one scene that shows up as a series of white lines running across the image. Does no one QC these things??? Not the cheapest disc in the world either, considering it`s a relatively unknown Swedish flick.

How does the film compare to the book? Im about 2/3rds of the way thru the book and Im enjoying it, I always have reservations about films based on books Ive read as a lot of ther time they turn out to be a huge disappointment (the da vinci code springs to mind)

I`ve not read it, but there are changes and omissions. They`re to be expected though, as hardly any books would work as films if translated untouched. I believe they toned down Hakan`s past and left Eli`s past a little more ambiguous. I correctly assumed based on the brief shot presented in the film, but it`s not spelled out for you in flashback like it (supposedly) is in the book.

Thats to be expected to an extent though as you say a literal book to screen `conversion` would be in pretty much all cases produce a terrible film. From what Ive read of the book so far Id asume bits would be toned down or altered for the film. The books a cracking read, (or is at least so far!) Id recommend it
I didnt know about the subtitle issues on the Blu Ray are the same issues on the dvd? (Ive yet to be convinced Blu Ray is worth the extra £ but that is for another thread lol) I found a page comparing the original screener and the Blue Ray subtitles from some key scenes and they are totally different spoiling the tone of the film (even to the point of not even bothering to translate Oskars morse code wall tapping :/ ) I think I`ll avoid the dvd till I know its corrected as I can see this being the difference between enjoying the film and not.

The UK releases have the correct subtitles, it`s just that the Blu-ray has an encoding error and the DTS-HD Master Audio track isn`t there (just normal DTS). The DVD is probably fine.

I thought I`d jump in here ans say that we watched this film yesterday - what a film! Absolutely loved it from start to finish :-)
I didn`t catch it at the flicks so can`t comment on the subs but it`s definitely a purchase I`ll be making soon - I`m almost dreading the `remake` though, I feel it`s one of those films that should be left the hell alone!
