BluRay/DVD Double Packs From Disney

Good idea but God knows how much they`ll cost! From homecinemachoice.com

Following on from successful trials across limited markets with the Blu-ray release of Sleeping Beauty late last year, Walt Disney Home Entertainment has revealed that it will be releasing more high-profile family titles as Combo Packs containing both Blu-ray and DVD versions of the film. Titles confirmed by Disney at CES include teen sensation High School Musical 3: Senior Year (February), animated classic Pinocchio: 70th Anniversary Edition (March) and the eagerly-anticipated Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (October).

All Combo Pack releases will feature fully-specified Blu-ray releases - often multi-disc, as with Sleeping Beauty - plus a bonus DVD disc containing the film and a limited set of bonus features. Disney says that this enables consumers to future-proof their collections, enabling them to invest in a Blu-ray player at a later date without the need to buy the same title again. `As always, we are committed to offering our consumers exceptional quality and value when purchasing our products` said Bob Chapek, President of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.

If they`re from Disney a good fiver more than anyone else! To be fair, the manufacturing costs of the DVDs shouldn`t add too much to the price.

Well may be i`m mssing something here but Sleeping Beauty comes with BD and DVD. It generally sells for around £16 online and about £20 in the shops. Which is the standard price for a BD so no real increase. I think its a good idea, specially if they continue to charge the standard price for it! I myself would never use the DVD version (and in fact i`m tempted when i get SB to sell the dvd with out a box!) but can see that its handy if you have kids!

You can also pick SB up for around £12.50 via HMV`s 2 for £25 (thats if you want to tempt fate by using the god aweful HMV! Ive been waiting nearly three weeks for my 2001 BD!!)

I think the SD/HD packs are a great idea, similar to the flipper HD DVDs with HD on one side and DVD on the other. As the press release says it means you can dip into the Blu-ray market meaning to buy the equipment in the future. Personally I think they are perfect for a household, as most will have only one Blu-ray player (and HD TV) and a couple of DVD players in bedrooms or other rooms, these packs mean you would only have to buy it once to watch it anywhere.

Considering you are getting a BD and DVD I don`t think the cost is worth mentioning - I got Sleeping Beauty in HMV`s two for £25 (with WALL-E) which was, at the time, great value for two newly released BDs.

My thoughts exactly. If Wall-E had been a double I`d have snapped it up (as in bought it, not broke it...)

Unless you only wanted the DVD originally which now means you`ve been "enticed" into buying a BR disc that you don`t need at the moment but will gnaw away at you that you have it til you give in and buy a player, and then buying more BR discs to increase the profits of that nasty corporation with the big mouse! ;-) :-D

Just looking for HSM 3 to pre order for the kids on PLAY but can`t find any mention of whether or not it comes with the DVD copy too.

Just want to make sure that I`m not ordering the wrong version.

All the best

Gerald.
