Tartan Films in adminsitration?

Chris Gould (Elite) posted this on Friday, 27th June 2008, 22:04

A real shame if true. The US outfit closed a while ago, but everyone said that it wouldn`t affect the UK operation. Well, now numerous sites are reporting that Tartan closed their doors on Thursday and the head of PR has an OOO message when you email him.

It`ll be a real shame if they close, because since the decline of HKL/Premier Asia they were about the only label to release decent Asian cinema (they also released a lot of s*** mind you). I was really looking forward to Lady Vengeance on Blu-ray. Quite a few people out of work as well...

Shame. Some of their early DVD releases were s***e, but you could tell they were trying to improve all the time.

Aaargh!

Too many good films for a company like this to go... :(

A real shame if true - maybe it is a sign of the times that small independent distributors are struggling - I read that Artificial Eye was having problems. :(

It looks as if it is niche, it`s struggling.

Day before yesterday a half thousand anime fans has a collective heart attack when ADV US auctioned off half their office furniture (They`d just let go of half their workforce and were downsizing their office), but the fans thought it was the end of the world. ADV UK went bye bye in January when ADV decided to distribute through Lace Distribution instead.

Tokyopop, manga publishers suddenly cut their output by half and got rid of half of their editing departments.

Looks like everything is falling apart by halves. Stupid Credit Crunch!

Tartan always had the most diverse catalogue, but some of their DVDs were, frankly, of appalling a/v quality, and unlike the Contender labels, you were never quite sure what you were going to get until you got it.

Looks like it may be up to Optimum Asia to carry the torch.

That was the old Tartan. Their recent releases have been very good. Optimum Asia haven`t really impressed me so far.
