I have power dvdxp4, and want to use it for multi region, but im worried about the so called `region lock` that happens after 5 region changes. Someone said this only happens if you insert the different region dvd`s in, but if you use dvdgenie first to change the region, the counter is not activated. Can anyone back this up/deny it, or know of a way to reset the counter?
Thanks;
Harvey
Yes, rather than use PowerDVD to change the region counter of your DVD-Rom drive, use a tool to hack the firmware which gives you total control and can keep your DVD-Rom from ever locking. I`ve never used DVD Genie as it doesn`t work on my Hitachi DVD-Rom drive.
Try this site for more information and tools: http://www.firmware.fr.st/
Get the tool on the homepage called, "Driveinfo v2.00", which is an .exe to tell you the type of drive you have and the region status, unless you know exactly the model/type of your DVD-Rom drive. Then check to see if there`s a tool on the site suitable for your particular DVD-Rom drive.
Couldn`t be simpler. I use just one tool called, "Hitachi DVD Region-Counter Reset", and it does exactly what it says on the tin.
Hope this helps.
go to :

and download the dvd genie patch. i use this with my power dvd and it enables you to cahnge the region setting as many times as you like.
so dvd genie does change the region without running the powerdvd counter. Cheers Elephant stone - i will now buy some region 1 dvd`s in confidence.
Try DVD Genie out first since this doesn`t work with every DVD-Rom drive.
