Transfomers HD DVD - is it region free?

david5166 (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 10th November 2007, 06:54

Hi folks
I have the HD player for the Xbox 360 and was wondering if the newly released US version of Transformers will play on my player?
Not quite sure whether HD and Blu-ray discs are region coded or not...
Thanks for any advice.
David

Got it a couple of weeks ago and it certainly is Region free. And it looks ace as well. :)

You`ll tend to find that HD DVD is region free, whilst Blu-ray is region coded, as a rule of thumb.

HD DVD is region free, whereas some BD discs are coded. Most UK output from Sony is region free and Warner don`t code any (as fa as I am aware), but Fox religiously codes all of their titles, even back-catalogue stuff. Sony do code some of their new releases, but they have stated that titles with coding will be made region free after a year. Still, HD DVD has the upper hand in this area. Region coding sucks, as it prevents people getting their hands on titles that would otherwise never get a release over here (I`m mostly referring to Asian films).
