I don`t think the studio has confirmed it yet, but I`m doing a really funky little dance at the mo, in celebration of this news.

Cha Cha Cha!

As much as I like the Lex Luthor character I hope any future possible sequel involves another enemy! It mentions Brainiac in the interview....that would be a great idea!....or dare I suggest it....the 3 Kryptonian villains from Superman II :D

So basically he`ll be doing a remake of Superman II.

I can`t imagine him doing nearly any of the baddies as they are too comic book, and Singer likes to keep his charcters more realistic and plausable.

Even if he did, he could take the Smallville/Superman III idea route rather than the comic book, but I doubt he`ll have a green skinned alien in the sequel.

***EDIT***

This was from AICN

Quote:
Sequels... He wanted to have something nailed down with WB before the Con so he could answer this question. He said that the deal is not concluded, but his intention is to do a sequel to release in 2009.

- He intends to "get Wrath of Khan" in the sequel. He feels now that he`s reintroduced the characters and have given people an emotional attachment to them that he can up the action without making it all "fireworks." He wants to really run Supes through the ringer, give him a giant obstacle. He mentioned WRATH OF KHAN more than once.

- Fan asked about Brainiac. At this point Donner had joined him. Singer said, "Can`t say." But later mentioned Superman having an "alien" problem in the next one. He also said he wanted to wait to see what Donner is doing with Brainiac. At another panel, Donner told the room that he was writing Action Comics stories with Geoff Johns, his former assistant and now fan favorite DC writer. At this panel Donner said he loved Brainiac. So, expect to see him show up somewhere.

- This quote, when confronted by an agitated fan about the romance being so central to the movie. He expounded upon what he mentioned about about having an emotional attachment to the characters and said, "There`ll be plenty of crazy, scary sci-fi s*** in the next one."

About the extended edition of Superman Returns

Quote:
- There will NOT be an Extended Edition. The DVD will have many of the cut scenes, but not cut back into the movie.

- They spent $10 million on the Return to Krypton sequence. Bryan ultimately felt it didn`t feel like a part of the same movie, so he cut it. It WILL NOT be on the DVD. It may appear in a special theatrical release later, like a new IMAX release or something. He loves it, but feels it needs to be seen on the big screen.

Yeh - I think the sequel, like Superman 2, will involve Luthor plus another foe. I`d quite like to see General Zod or all three Kryptonians back - but then people would probably say he`s just re-doing Superman 2 (even though Spider-Man 2 has already done that... ;) ).

$10 million!!? Man, they must have "wasted" well over $50m on SR - no wonder Warner wants to gets it`s money back, before going ahead with the sequel.

Anyone know what the "Return to Krypton" sequence involved? I`ve just got the comicbook adaptation, so I`ll see if it`s included in that...

Its a sequence at the very start with Superman in his ship searching the remains of krypton for other survivors.

According to the comic adaptation he finds whats left of his father lab with the superman sign on the wall and then a piece of kryptonite hits the ship and is absorbed which poisons him so he sets a course back to earth and then I would imagine that is where the title sequence starts up.

Oh, it`s that bit. Yeah, I read that in the comic-adaptation. Just surprised it cost $10m to film! :o

It would take a nifty bit of writing to get Luthor into the sequel, as he finished the first one SPOILER:
with only five coconuts, an empty helicopter, a girlfriend and a dog to his name, whilst stranded on a desert island!
The spoiler tags are just in case someone was reading about the sequel without having seen the first one.

question - why would superman be poisoned by kryptonite back at krypton? He doesn`t have any powers back there (or Jor-El and co. would have been flyin about in the originals) therefore kryptonite wouldn`t have any effect....

I know, I need a life - but hey, it`s tues, I`m at work and bored and my brain is turning to mush...

Kryptonite is Kryptonite, doesnt matter if he is exposed to it on the remains of his home planet or back on Earth where he has super powers.

Remember it doesnt just remove his powers, it is radiation poisoing and prolonged exposure will kill him.

yeah but he`s originally from krypton - if kyptonians were vulnerable to kryptonite, there wouldn`t have been any kryptonian society to start with... kryptonite is actually the remains of his home planet
