What are the best film dvds without a Cinema release?
Scrolling through pages and pages of films listed at Play, Amazon etc I began to wonder if any of these straight to dvd releases are any good? Which DVDs would you recommend amongst the shelf fillers?

The Final Cut - Robin Williams (in yet another serious role) and Jim Caviezel. It features a pretty interesting plot (although it in no way explores the main idea enough to be completely satisfying). Not brilliant, but pretty good and a lot better than some of the pap that is shown in cinemas.
Stander - Tom Jane and, eh, Dexter Fletcher star. I can`t remember this being in the cinema. It`s a pretty good film that maybe would have benefitted with a much more consistant tone (starts off serious, turns into a bit of a style over substance heist movie, not outside the realms of Oceans Eleven).

Stander was actually on More4 the other day. That did get a release didn`t it? Albeit very limited.
How about Mean Creek? Did that get a release in the cinema?
Giggity giggity!

What`s Mean Creek about? Not one I `ve heard of :/

Saw Mean Creek in the cinema last year (along the same time as Sin City and The Jacket). One of my favourite movies of last year.
How about The Boondock Saints?
Wait! We can`t stop here! This is bat country!

Yeah, as Karlveer said it did get a release and I saw it in a nice (surprisingly full) cinema.
Boondock Saints, can`t remember really. But I didn`t like the film much, although Willem Dafoe was funny ;)

You`d be better off watching Overnight which is a documetary about the man who directed the Boondock Saints, and how he managed to f*** it all up overnight.
From IMDB
Quote:
A documentary about the rise and fall of filmmaker Troy Duffy. An aspiring writer-director who got the dream of a lifetime when he sold a script to Miramax as his first feature to direct.
But beneath the seemingly happy deal that made Duffy the man of the hour, was an arrogant egomaniac whose ambitions alienated friends, and burned bridges in the film industry.
Overnight is a movie about how one director ultimately ruins a promising career that could have been from an overnight success.
