Caught this on SciFi Channel the other day. This is still a great movie! Why can`t I find it on DVD anywhwere. Any more lost classics that you`d like to see on DVD?

Yeah - I like it a lot too! I doubt whether we`ll ever see a DVD release any time soon though, due to all the legal issues surrounding the opening segment. Basically...

Quote:
The making of the movie had tragic consequences that overshadowed the film itself. During the filming of a segment directed by John Landis on July 23, 1982, actor Vic Morrow and child actors Myca Dinh Le (aged 7) and Renee Shin-Yi Chen (aged 6) died in an accident involving a helicopter. The accident led to legal action against the filmmakers that lasted nearly a decade, and changed the regulations involving children working on movie sets at night and during special effects-heavy scenes. As a result of the tragedy, one second assistant director had his name removed from the credits and replaced with the pseudonymous Alan Smithee. Another unfortunate result of this tragedy was the end of the friendship between director Landis and producer Spielberg.

You can find out more about it if you do a search on google (there have also been 2 books written on the matter!).

'Poltergeist' SE, 'Twilight Zone' DVDs on the way!
Last night, representatives from Warner Home Video participated in an online chat with The Home Theater Forum about upcoming DVDs, and the folks from WB relayed some great news for fans of Steven Spielberg's work from the early 1980s.

First up (and I have to say I'm personally ecstatic about this news), a proper, respectable release of "Poltergeist" will finally see release on DVD for the first time.

A couple of years back, a rep from Warners promised that a special edition release of "Poltergeist" was in the works for the film's 25th anniversary in 2007, and last night fans received further confirmation from the studio that the disc is on its way!

"'Poltergeist' is still set for its Silver Birthday (gosh, are we all that old?) next year. Two-disc SE with lots of goodies," Warner Home Video told The Home Theater Forum.

No words on bonus features yet, but I implore the gods of DVD to have had the decency to sit with Steven Spielberg, Tobe Hooper, and producer Frank Marshall (not to mention any available cast and crew) to reflect on one of the most undervalued gems in Spielberg's filmography.

Fans will also be pleased to learn that 1983's "Twilight Zone The Movie,' heretofore unreleased on DVD, is also finally in the works at Warners.

"We are very, very close to finally getting 'Twilight Zone The Movie' out on DVD. Please pray with us. We know everyone wants it," Warners reps told The Home Theater Forum chat.

No word on whether or not the film will feature any bonus content. Behind-the-scenes documentaries might be difficult since it may be hard to get anyone involved in the film to want to reflect on it on camera, all things considered, but at the very least it's good news that this unavailable work in Spielberg's filmography will finally see the light of our DVDs' lasers.

I recorded a lovely anamorphic print from Sky Movies in Pro-Logic.
If the commercial release has no extras,it won`t be any better than recording it off Sky.
