Page 1 of " backing up" DVD`s onto CDR
DVDs & Films Forum
Anyone else seen the disc that`s being offered on QXL, it claims to let you compress a DVD onto a CDR, losing no quality in the process, at £9 it sounds a bit of a bargain, (for backup purposes only you understand!!!)
RE: " backing up" DVD`s onto CDR
I haven`t had a look at qxl but nine pounds sounds like a complete ripoff as it will just be freeware apps which are available all over the web for nowt.
Don`t get conned.
It`s most likely the DeCSS app along with DivX :-) compression and related utilities. These are widely available on the net for free, so asking 9 quid is a bit much.
In any case, the resulting CD-R will not be anywhere near the quality of the original DVD, though it should at least be better than bog-standard AVI or MPEG1. You`ll also have to play it on your PC as no standalone player will support this file format.
Think about it - if it was possible to squeeze a full DVD-quality movie onto a CD, do you think they`d have gone to the trouble of inventing DVD? :-)
