Full Price DVD Box Sets? Does anyone buy them?
Just a query - does anyone ever actually buy full price box sets anymore? I`ve stopped as I was stung twice a few years back when I bought Twin Peaks Season 1 for £50 and Scream Trilogy for £50. Both are around £15 each now. Makes you sick.
And how can some places do cheap box sets (ie Dallas for £17.49) when other sites still sell at full price?
And how long should you wait to buy a box set? When the price comes down to less than £20. You can now pick up Godfather trilogy for £15, Alien Quadrilogy for around £22, and Season 1 of X-Files for £12.99 (Snapped that one up from Play).
Any other cheapies out there?

Damn good question! I used to but these days I`m much more inclined to wait until the price drops which isn`t too long really. It`s amazing how much markup there is on these sets or the `need` of the retailers to offload their stock within a time period?!

I`ve never bought them at the full RRP. I don`t own that many sets, but the ones I have were mostly presents, freebies or uber-cheap. Off of the top of my head:
Alien Legacy - £30 (and that was when it first came out)
Star Trek: TNG Season 1 - £10 (ages ago in Blockbuster sale)
Star Trek: TNG Season 2 - £30 (ages ago in Blockbuster sale)
Alien Quadrilogy - Free
Indy Jones Set - Gift
Star Wars Trilogy - Gift
Ultimate Matrix Collection - Gift
Godfather Trilogy - £15
CSI Seasons 1, 2, 3 and part one of 4 - Freebies
CSI: Miami Season1 - Freebie
Transformers Series 1 - £15
Transformers Series 3 and 4 - £15
Rocky Anthology - Freebie
Epic Action Collection - Freebie
Once Upon a Time in China Trilogy - £15
Rogers and Hammerstein Collection - £30 (back when it was £70 most places)
Hellraiser Lament Configuration Box - £15
Phantasm Collection - Freebie
Most expensive one I ever bought was the Nightmare on Elm Street Collection, back in the early days of my collection (probably about six years ago). Cost me £60 (I think), but it`s still the best version of the set available and was amazing value for an eight disc boxed set back then.

RE: Full Price DVD Box Sets? Does anyone buy them?
When I first got a DVD player in 2000, I bought a few DVDs from Play.com that were almost full price. I think, for example, I paid £14.99 for American Beauty. But that is such a fabulous film I don`t really mind. Very shortly thereafter I discovered this site & never paid full price for anything again, as I got clued up very quickly on where to get the best deals.
Speaking of boxsets, I got the Godfather boxset, when it was first released, for £40 from Tesco.com using online discount codes. Sure, I`ve seen it as low as £12.99 now, but I was delighted (and still am) just to have this set - very much £40 well spent!
Godfather II = Greatest movie ever.

I certainly haven`t bought many full price but I bought the `Stingray` set as soon as it landed. A wonderful pink box with Troy and Marina....the price soon dropped but by that time my love affair with the series had been blssoming for weeks! :x

The Rocky boxset situation is confused because they have just re-released it with different packaging, but much the same extras.
Scum of the earth. >:(
