Hi,
I was just wondering if anybody knows the differece between a dvd and a vcd? infact could anyone tell me what a VCD is???

A VCD is literally a Video CD.
In comparison with a DVD it`s like a can of tuna against caviar !
VCDs will generally have VHS-quality picture and (at best) stereo sound (as opposed to Super VCD -SVCD- which can come with surround sound, but usually of dubious quality).
The VCD format is very popular in Asia, where the "man on the street" tends to be priced out of the DVD market, buying cheaper VCD-only playback machines and very very cheap discs.
With DVDs the emphasis is on Digital, hence better picture, better sound. VCDs will also only have room for the feature only - no room for fancy extras.
Having said that, VCDs are pretty easy to make yourself, assuming you have the right software - try http://www.vcdhelper.com for starters.

dvd can hold more info and is of better quality. VCD is a videocd that can be played on any cd rom drive, vcd player or most dvd players. Dvds can be played on dvd rom drives or dvd players only. VCD is basically a normal cd with a film on it. A dvd can hold more info and therefore the picture is 100x better and the sound is infinitely clearer. Dvd can have index marks and menus etc. VCD picture quality aint that bad. Its a bit better than VHS
