Page 1 of Favorate 80`s horror flicks?
DVDs & Films Forum
Halloween is almost upon us, and the 80`s IMO had some superb horror flicks compared to any other decade.
The 80`s horror flicks left nothing to the imagination when it came to grusome creative murders unlike the 70`s horror flicks, where it was all suggestive, and often very low budget.
So come on what`s your fave 80`s horror flick?

RE: Favorate 80`s horror flicks?
If we are talking about horror films made in the 80`s then it has to be The Shining, followed by Day of the Dead and The Evil Dead but they are atypical of the 80`s `slasher` horror films of which the my favourites are Halloween, A Nightmare On Elm Street, Hellraiser and Friday the 13th.

Actually, I think the 70`s was the golden period for horror movies - I mean, just take a look at these babies:
The Omen, Jaws, Halloween, The Exorcist, Carrie, Dawn Of The Dead, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Don`t Look Now, Alien, The Wicker Man
Classics!! :D
I`m looking forward to the CH4 horror documentaries this week (every night around 11pm-ish) + The Fog is also on tonight! :B

Congratulations on perhaps the quickest drive off topic of all threads, of all time. ;)
I bet you had to Google all those 70`s flicks, huh?
Aside from those already mentioned, I`ve always been partial to a bit of A Nightmare On Elm Street Part III, any of John Carpenter`s great 80`s horror and for some reason, Friday The 13th part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan and Return Of The Living Dead Part 2.
Man, I love those cheesy sequels. :x

Part III was the best of the NOES sequels but wasn`t a patch on the first one, the Friday the 13th franchise went downhill faster than a Ferrari after Part 2 and the ROTLD movies are awful but I suppose enjoyable just for the cheese.
Other films worth mentioning are The Fog, Scanners, Re-Animator, The Fly (and The Fly 2) infact any of Cronenberg`s 80`s films!

American werewolf in london & Evil dead are two great 80s horror favourites of mine, and speaking of John Carpenter his Halloween, the thing and one of my favourites The Fog. I have a soft spot for the much trashed Halloween 3 (So it didnt feature Myers? who cares)
RE: Favorate 80`s horror flicks?
The Thing, the Friday the 13th films (all better than you`d expect if you like slasher flicks), NOES, hell even Gremlins is ace!
80`s was a great period for horror, lets hope the 00`s pick up where it left off! (although I must admit I do enjoy some of the 90`s teen horror flicks). ;)
Giggity giggity!
Some excellent films already mentioned (The Fog,The Thing, Day of the Dead, Evil Dead etc).
I would also like to add the sublime `Re-Animator`, the much-underestimated `From Beyond`, `Creepshow`, `Halloween 2` & `The Return of the Living Dead`.

RE: Favorate 80`s horror flicks?
Well I`d have to agree with Hulk that the 70`s produced many more Horror classics than the 80`s and I wouldn`t really say that his post was particularly off topic. :p
But my main gripe >:( -

and the ROTLD movies are awful
No wossname, the ROTLD SEQUELS are awful, in fact they`re so mind-numbingly f*cking awful that they should burn the negatives to prevent any further human suffering!
But the original Return of the Living Dead is a horror/black comedy classic with a great witty script by Dan O bannon and great comic performances from all the leads.
Bow your head in shame wossname!
