Abyss

valdikaldi (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 3rd August 2001, 07:35

I just got Abyss SE, and I hate the fact that they edited the scene where the rat is submerged in the liquid breathing fluid. Anyone feel the same?
I know some people don`t like it, but why skip the scene? The rat isn`t going to feel any better, or should I say the rat wouldn`t feel any better if it were alive, not showing it. Don`t get me wrong here. I don`t get any kick out of hurting animals. But now that I`ve seen the movie with the scene in it, it just doesn`t seem whole without it.

I know what you mean. I haven`t got it on DVD yet - presumably the R1 version is uncut - but I bought the VHS ages ago.

I was even more annoyed to find that when channel 4 showed it ages ago, not only was it in widescreen, but it was an uncut version!

The R1 version is definitely uncut and includes the rat scene.

the scene had to be cut `cos the of the BBFC.

channel 4 showed the uncut version by mistake a couple of years ago and got fined loads of money.

if you think that`s bad compare the r1 version of Eraser to the r2 version! cut to shreds in order to get a 15 cert!

I`ve got the channel 4 showing. :) And the special edition VHS and the R2 DVD. :)
Oh and various press release stuff I tracked down in a movie type shop. :) I like the Abyss. heh.

Oh, and the book.

And the two part comic of the film...

the scene was cut so as not to offend any rats that might be watching.
