Page 1 of DVD REVIEWER AWARDS
DVDs & Films Forum
Guys - I have a good idea to boost this website:
An award ceremony. There will be categories (similar to the Oscars) but based entirely on the DVD (i.e. "X-Men" could win an award `cos it`s disc is decent).
What do you think? The more names down, the better chance of the big bosses listenin`!
Thats a good idea! You could make it all legit and everything, set up a proper voting type system to make it fair (not rigged like the Oscars). That could be cool.
Is there not something like this already though?
I`m not sure...but come on guys - let`s get some suggestions down here. Dan (Bates) what do you think?
I think its a great idea , but it would need serious work and input from the DVD Reviewer users . Lets give it a go!?
You can count me in.
What categories would you guys have?
There are the obvious ones
Best Sound
Best Picture
Best Extras
Best R1 Title
Best R2 Title
DVD best used as a coaster
Best use of DVD medium
Most useless extra
Sounds like a reasonable idea, and something that we could do nearer the middle of the year (like now) to separate it from the annual best discs articles we write at Christmas.
We would obviously have to give nominations, otherwise there would be hundreds of candidates for each section. Perhaps the Reviewer staff could agree on the nominations, then put the results to a poll of the readership ?
Then all we`d have to do is get Sheppo to code an awards page with all that spare time he has ;-)

Thanks Dan and all of you guys - I`m glad you like my idea. I think August would be a great time for the Awards, and below are the categories that I think would be good:
Best R1 DVD
Best R2 DVD
Best Transfer
Best Audio
Best Extras
Best Packaging
Most Useless Extra
Any more ideas?
Damn fine idea this, although I hope the eventual nominees won`t just be films (even though I realise this is the largest market for DVD at the moment). I`m beginning to realise the importance of music performaces on the medium (whether it`s the latest SFA release - out today I think - or opera / ballet / various other classical stuff - for which DVD can add so much more the CDs if it`s produced well). All these can easily be slotted into the categories mentioned in the postings above mine. I think it would be a shame to ignore them just because they`re a `minority` interest. Mind you - from all the postings I`ve seen over the last 6 months I think I may be the only one here who watches this sort of thing anyway :-).
oh yes....how about `Most reliable / best value online retailer` ?
