DOOM! - full trailer...

Ok, so it isn`t a great trailer (crap lines, too much like Resident Evil plot-wise, generic heavy rock action music). But damn, those first person shooter sequences look amazing. Ok, they linger on the shots too much in the trailer, but imagine watching the film where there is no music, only sound effects (breathing, footsteps, dripping water)... in my opinion that`s quite an inspired thing to do. Whether it works or not is yet to be seen.

I`m not holding much hope, but this film could actually be the film Alien Vs Predator wanted to be... good fun.

Im not going to see this out of point of pig headed principle. Ive had enough of people licensing properties then changing them beyond all recognition to target a demographic. The line in the sand is drawn here!

Bio-Force Gun? Genetically engineered mutants instead of the minions of hell? Puuhleaze.....

The balls out nastiness is what made doom. It was a dirty, horrible game. Thats why I (and millions of others) loved it. It would be like licensing Grand Theft Auto and taking out the car theft, stomping on hookers heads and turning flamethrowers on the police.

It`ll die on it`s arse. I fully expect it to be heavily edited down to a few shots. It`s one of those gimmicks that will only appeal to the die hard game fan, whereas the generic cinemagoer (who, lets face it, this film has to please to make any kind of wonga) will see it as such, a gimmick.

From what I`ve read, the "first person" perspective is one long shot, no cuts. And it can work, John Carpenter did it. Although I have no such faith in the talent behind this film (Cradle 2 The Grave anyone? :/ ).

I just hope that it is at least fun.

Luckily I have the means to see it in a 500 seat cinema on a huge screen with great sound and an audience of my choosing (night time = busy, morning = cinema to myself). And it costs £11 a month for unlimited access, and will be one of 3 or 4 films I see the week it comes out (which isn`t too bad considering it`s about £6 for one ticket, so if I were to see 15 films in a month without the pass, it would cost about £90 or something).

I so wish they had had those passes when I was young & single, the problem with seening all the films at the cinema is then you`ve seen them all in the video shop.

Anyway about Doom, Not sure how the fps sequence will work, most scary films have the hero on screen backing away from the supposed threat further into the shadows, when the things behind them all along.

Moving FPS style will give scares turning corners and things dropping from above, not traditional but then again, maybe not done to death before becasue it won`t work.

Don`t you need to see the character in peril, to dread the impending scare on the heros behalf?

The last few Rock films have been ok, I thought.

When video shops charge over £3 a rental... that`s not much of a loss.
