Titan AE and American Psycho - your views please

Just watched Titan AE rental. Amazing special effects from start to finish. However, how many nods to Star Wars can a film contain eh.
Even that bug eyed alien looked and acted like Yoda.
Oh yeh and they might as well have called it Noahs Ark...AE blatanly stands for Adam and Eve doesnt it - you know, first people on earth ?

Now onto American Psycho. I enjoyed it but I am not sure if I missed something. I pressume that he has spit personality..similar to Fight Club but not concluded as well as that ... any opinions.

Pete.

Yup...you definately missed something.......

Their are two trains of thought.....

1. he really did everything you saw..but because of the faceless 80`s pre-occupation with all things shallow, he was never in control of any situation...Who he actually killed he never really knew....ironically, commiting the perfect crimes.....His victims (inclduing the tramp) never even knew who they were....

or 2. we were privy to the wild imaginations of a bored and somewhat disturbed mind.....the "doodles" in his office were the narative of the film........

I go with idea 1.......any film that portrays the 80`s as the evil it was, is fine by me!.........oh....and why do films need to have a conclusion?.......any film that leaves you thinking for yourself can only be good.......we rely far too heavily on being spoon-fed.....

here`s a recomendation for you.....hire "Memento"....watch it, thinka bout it, and watch it again.......now that is filmmaking!

Hi
Can`t comment on Ae yet (haven`t seenit).
But in my opinion in American Psycho I think that he did not kill anyone but was just a figment of his warped and strained mind.Look at his obsession with business cards.

em.....look at his obsession with business cards?....

why does that make you think that it was all a figment of his imagination?...............

All of the characters were obsessed by material objects.....thats the point.........

read the book......it`s less obtuse than the film.....

hated titan AE - clashing visuals and a story that only a 5 year would think was original. fox seemed to have no idea who the target market was and so made a messy film.

american psycho is good although the previous comments are correct. the film is different from the book as it implies that it may have all been just in his head and it lacks the utter brutality of the book. what it also lacks from the book though is the total attack on the 80`s consumerism lifestyle, the flmboyant excess and conspicuous consumption. the film is ok but the book is stunning. but it is not a pleasant read. everything by Brett Easton Ellis is excellent though. my god, the nihilism...

Why does every film have to be original. I thought Titan AE was just plain fun. A great film. As for the guy pondering what AE means..no it`s not Adam and Eve, it stands for After Earth. you know, like BC and AD etc etc.

I know that AE stands for after earth but surley there must be a play on the AE in the whole storyline. I did enjoy it by the way.

****SPOILER***
I did like the way when he jokingly called the planet Bob, it stuck. :) It`s kind funny to think of the human race starting again, building itself to greatness on a planet named "Bob" .:)

"Why does every film have to be original?".........

em....ok....well.........cinema is such a powerfull media (not as powerfull TV granted!)....and it is duties are to entertain and educate.......so many movies have the debt of a third world coutnry thrown at it....and it`s only right that they must give something back.........

I am an advocate of movies that envoke feelings and thought.....but entertainment has it`s place as well.......there are so many films being released that are just so mediocre and have had so much money spent on them it`s almost vulgar........

so to answer your question........we choose to spend 2-3 hours and almost 10 quid on going to the cinema...and we want an enjoyable time.......it`s up to the filmakers to come up with the goods..and not just re-hash old ideas with better effects....
