House of Flying Daggers

Is this a new version of the disc?

www2.cd-wow.com/detail_results_2.php?product_code=14430

It seems to list more features that the one I`ve seen doing the rounds, costs slightly more and has a different cover. It also reckons it`s 6.1 ES... The current release is a PAL>NTSC transfer, so this could be a bit better if it is indeed a genuine NTSC transfer with the full 119 minute running time.

certainly different to the version I got from CDW.

Might have to trade in. But the 6.1s in mandarin and I really dont want to watch a dub because it makes it look cheesy (joke)

i held off buying the last release a month or so ago, that one had no extras from what i remember this has a few listed. and its only a few pound more.

i want to see it at the cinema first, in the email i got from odeon today the running time is down as 119mins and it opens today.

ive been reading that the american release has a few cuts, i havent read what they are incase of spoilers.

The UK release has 18 seconds of cuts as well.

Just watched this this afternoon (DVD), awesome film. I think Hero still pips it at the post (done by pretty much the same team), but some of the scenes are fantastic (the whole movie in fact), beautifully shot. :)

Do you have it? I ask as CD-Wow have made mistakes before. I thought perhaps they`ve listed the limited edition by mistake, as there doesn`t seem to be much over the two-disc set to make it a limited edition...

If you do have it can you tell me the run time? The existing disc is appearently a PAL>NTSC conversion job, so if the new one is pure NTSC it`ll be better.

where does the whole pal>ntsc thing come from?

as far as the subs on the extras goes, the dvd is made by edko who also made hero. in that edition there were no subs at all on the disc aside from on the films.

with regards to the limited vs special edition, it is limited to 2000 copies and you get yours numbered. plus bamboo pen, bookmarks and booklets. helluva difference to be honest.

It comes from the fact that the current EDKO disc is a PAL>NTSC conversion ;) The running time is only 114 minutes (as opposed to 119) and there are loads of conversion artefacts.

As for Hero, you`re wrong about the subs. The interviews are all subtitled in English (actually, some of them are spoken in English), but it`s not advertised.

I`m not a massive fan of limited editions and all the crap that goes with them. I have far too much s*** clogging up my house to be bothered with bamboo pens etc. I just want to know if the audio-visual quality is better than the current EDKO release.
