Ju-on - Which film are you all talking about?

enemyonpc (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 5th October 2004, 13:31

OK, i`m always hearing of people saying the Ju-on is the scariest film they have ever seen so i got curious and went looking on IMDB and noticed that there have been 4 version released all made by the same bloke.

1. Ju-on - The Curse
2. Ju-on - The Curse 2
3. Ju-on - The Grudge
4. Ju-on - The Grudge 2

From what i can gather, 2 is a remake of 1 with a few additional changes. 3 is a frame by frame remake of 1 with differnt actors and 4 is a sequel to 3. So when you say Ju-on is the scariest film you have ever seen which one do you mean? 1,2 or 3?

Insidently i got a pop-up on IMDB for Sarah M Gellar film called the Grudge which appears to be Ju-on given the Ring and Dark Water treatment.

Regards
Bryan

i rented out ju-on the grudge, or as it was called for us in the uk the grudge. id been wanting to see this for a while and with the title and cover being a bit so-so i nearly passed on it, its only when i read the back that i saw it was the one i was after.

i read that the first two were kinda straight to vid but still very good, and give something of a backstory, i think it would have been 3. on your list that i saw.

i thought it was very good, took me a few watches to sort it out, but well worth a look.its by the producers of the ring films, so its no suprise to see an american remake, probably be promoted by mentioning the american ring version.

SMG has a role in The Grudge, a western remake of (I assume) the first of the eastern Grudge movies.

As far as i can gather though, it`s under the helm of the original director, set in Tokyo, and is supposedly very faithful to the original.

Trivia fans, this is the movie SMG was filming that prevented her from appearing in the final season of Angel. Shame.

Ju-on: The Curse was a low budget made for television, whilst Ju-on: The Grudge, the one we`re all talking about is the movie based on the first television movie, as the second TV movie wasn`t well recieved.

It`s quite common in Japan to remake television movies for the cinema . Ring is a remake of a made for television called Ring: Kanzenban and it`s sequel Ring: Saishuushou.

JUON THE GRUDGE is the best scary movie I`ve seen in many years. No prisoners are taken in both that and its sequel. I found them both quite disturbing. I`m looking for ward to the US version, which Ive read may not be actually a straight re-make, but actually another chapter in the story of that house.

Trivia: Chiaki Kuriyama (Go-Go Yubari) is in Juon: The Curse.
