Page 1 of The Abyss R2
DVDs & Films Forum
Just purchased Abyss R2, and i hope someone is going to put me right here all the copies i have seen say aspect ratio 2:35 1 but also say 4.3 on the back.
When i play the disc the black bars are that big that i can not zoom them out on my widescreen this is doing my nut is there any way i can completely get rid of the borders all help gratefully recieved.
If the bars are horizontal, then that`s normal - 2.35:1 ratio is going to have them on a widescreen telly whether you want them or not. The idea is that this replicates the picture the director wanted.
The perfect match for a 16:9 widescreen is actually 1.77:1, but more often than not the aspect ratio of DVDs that fill the screen is 1.85:1.
If the bars are vertical then I suggest you check the set-up screen, firstly in the disc itself (ie is their an option to specify which aspect ratio you watch ?) or in the player itself (ie have you told your player you`ve got a widescreen telly).
On a 2.35:1 picture you will still get black bars, but you will get the whole picture as the director intended.
Hope this helps !
Cheers Clayts it seems i was being a bit daft, on a normal or at least normal in my opinion 2:35 1 you can zoom the bars out but it would seem
that i have just purchased my first non anomorphic disc and it is most annoying, im afraid i did not notice this at first and just presumed it would be anomorphic.
I am aware of all the points you make but i thought i might be overlooking something simple this is cras on a classic title like this not to get the full picture.
