It`s not easy finding an actual shop that sells R1 (or any DVDs other than UK releases) DVDs because it`s illegal to sell something without a BBFC logo on it (or something like that).

And if you do find a place, they`re probably going to charge a fortune (£20 each).

But if you told us where you live, then someone may be able to point you in the right direction ;)

Also, why can`t you purchase online?

HI I think the best place you could get R1 dvd`s without ordering of the net is at local computer markets, I live near B`ham and they have fairs nearly every weekend.
Try computermarkets.co.uk and you should be able to find a market somewhere near you. The only trouble with these fairs are that it is only the newer releases that they sell and you will be paying18 -20 quid for the releases.
Hope this is some help.

But the bottom line is, it`s completely illegal to sell, in the UK, a DVD that isn`t certified by the BBFC. The reason online shops get away with it is because the actual transaction takes place at the point of purchase (i.e for CD-wow, it`s Hong Kong, for Amazon.com it`s Wisconsin), and merely sending you the DVD after purchase isn`t breaking any laws (depending on the `content` of the DVD)

So bear in mind, if you do buy a DVD in this counrty that isn`t BBFC certified, you`re taking part in an illegal transaction.

HMV are selling region 1 DVD`s, i know the shop in Meadowhall sheffield has a copy of the R1 Metallica`s Cliff Em All, admittedly it seems to be just music DVD`s (not DVD-Audio) but they`re selling them none the less.

Music Videos are exempt from classification (except in extreme circumstances, Slipknot video`s for example), so if the British version is exempt, the US version comes under the same category. It`s a very thin line, but it`s there.,

there used to be a store in dundee where i was a student that would allow trade-ins of region 1s (and thus sell them) but the way they used to get around it was they used to stick the bbfc stickers on the non-uk dvds. eg final destination region 1 i got was with a `15` bbfc sticker on it (a bitch to take off, by the way).

I`m sure the SCUM, sorry - BBFC, would have something to say about that as well. :(

Best bet is to order online, unfortunately, or give someone else the money to do so on your behalf.
