Goodfellas & Heat

Blue John (Elite) posted this on Monday, 19th January 2004, 15:00

From `DVDDebate`:

In July Michael Mann`s critically acclaimed cult classic Heat starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino gets even hotter on a two-disc special edition."

"The most eagerly anticipated release of the year however will surely be the two-disc special edition DVD of Goodfellas with extensive input from Martin Scorsese" (September)

Glad I didn`t buy the flipper version now... :)

Flipper version only cost me a fiver, so I`m glad I did :)

Having never seen either before I bought them on R2, I got Heat back in July 2002 for £5.99 and traded one of my discs for Goodfellas in July 2003 - both great films, with Heat marginally better. I don`t think I can be bothered to upgrade, as the techincal presentation is superb already (especially Heat) and I have too many other DVDs I want. :-P

Chris

For a fiver, I`d be tempted. Where was that from?

£7.99 at CD-Wow. I`m sure you know how to get it for less. ;)
By the way, it`s the R4 release, but is dual encoded.

These will be two definite must haves. Been waiting for a good release of Goodfellas for ages! Now all I need is an Anniversary Edition of Clerks!

The version that`s available now is already aquite good. I have the R4 CE, which is better than the R1 Crtierion in that it`s Anamorphic.

Heat is £4.99 at Play.com and Goodfellas £7.99 at CD Wow. Also, you might consider the Heat / Deer Hunter / GoodFellas boxset for £17.99 at Play.com.

Hope this helps,

Damian

I think all three are fantastic, but I can remember watching Deer Hunter for the first time during the first Russian roulette sequence and being horrified.

Extremely well made film.

It is worth noting that the version of Cimino`s The Deer Hunter included in the aforementioned triple-boxset is the inferior single-disc edition - in 2003 WB re-released it as a 2-disc set with some great extras and a commentary from the director (exclusive to R2).

It may be worth sourcing that version out and getting Heat for a fiver off Play.com, then maybe going for Goodfellas off eBay/CD-WOW! with vouchers.
