Main differences are:

1. Region 1 dvd`s are generally cheaper and are sometimes released before Region 2 dvd`s (ie. Finding Nemo is out on 4/11/03 on Region 1).

2. Region 1 dvd`s often have better extra`s.

3. The sound quality is better on R1 dvd`s.

4. Region 2 dvd`s are supposed to have a superior picture quality .....but if you have got a t.v. that has ntsc playback you wont notice the difference (in my opinion).

Hope this helps.

Nope, the sound quality isn`t any better. If you are referring to PAL speed up, then this affects the pitch of the sound, but most people can`t detect it. It`s also worth noting that many R2 DVDs now get DTS where the same film on R1 only gets a DD 5.1 soundtrack.

PAL, or R2 DVDs do generally have a superior picture, mainly due to the higher resolution. Also, NTSC or R1 DVDs have a jerky picture, unless you have a progressive scan monitor. So PAL wins in the video stakes, but sometimes it comes down to how the well the studio remastered the film for DVD.

Also concider

1- content (extras) of R1 disk and R2 disks differ.

2 - due to different classification bodies in uk and states some moves become must have one or the other region. eg Indiana jones R2 has more cuts then R1.

The best thing to do imho is to do your homework, compare all regions of the films extras, audio, cuts, price etc and then decide which one is best :) Don`t forget R4 is also pal.
