EBAY DISC PURCHASE ERROR

Paul Franco (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 17th July 2003, 22:27

I have bought a disc from someone on EBAY. He seems like a regular seller though the disc is clearly a copy. Unfotunately my NAD Multiregion player, purchased from Richer Sounds rejects the CD reporting a "Disc Error". Can anyone offer any explanation?
Many thanks,

Franco

Yes, it`s a CD/ DVD. He calls it a DVD/VCD. He seems to have a lot of postive feedback on his site. Could it be the disc or the player?

`DVD/VCD` - seems like deliberately misleading bollocks to me. It`s either a DVD, or a VCD - it can`t be both!

Sounds like your NAD isn`t VCD compatible, or (more likely) it isn`t capable of reading CD-R media.

When a disc is listed as DVD?VCD,this normally means its a video cd that should play on most dvd players. If its a copy then your player will not play cd-r.It should play in your cd-rom drive. If it does not ,then the disc is dodgy and you should give him negative feedback if he refuses a refund.

Ah, could someone please explain the difference between a DVD and VCD?

Thanks...

A DVD is the same size as a VCD but can hold much more data (8GB?)
A VCD is basically a normal CD (650mb) with a movie put into it. Normally VCD`s
cannot hold a full movie due to its limited capacity so you will find that movies are spread
accross 2-3 discs unless the quality is so awful that they were able to cram it all onto one disc. You can play VCD`s on a normal computer cd rom drive on your PC using windows media player or other video interfaces. To play DVDs on your computer, you specifically need a DVD rom drive.
