Superbit DVDs. Are they worth it?
I`ve seen them advertised on play.com but are they really that much better than normal DVDs?
Not unless you have (a) a top of the range system that will allow you to notice picture differences and (b) don`t like extras.
So for me, and most people, not really, no. :)

RE: Superbit DVDs. Are they worth it?
I have quite a few Superbit titles. It depends if you can really benefit from DTS. Two movies that stick out for me are Desperado & XXX both cracking DTS tracks. Godzilla is OK but nothing special but Crouching Tiger is a con unless you want to watch it in Mandarin. I prefer dubbed english but even the Superbit version is only 5.1DD in this mode.
Criterion is another one similar to Superbit. I have Amegeddon & The Rock - both are superb in DTS
But as Rik says, you need the gear to appreciate it. I have a 42" RP Panasonic, a Pioneer DVD-A player & a Marantz SR7300 receiver which fits the bill quite nicely along with my full set of 6 Mission speakers with the M7C2S sitting proud on top of my TV :0)

I`m not as high spec as that so I dont think I`ll bother then.
Thanks

I think it also sort of depends on whether the original disc has many quality extras available. Anaconda only has a trailer and the Superbit version has nothing but superb pic and sound.
Also my copy of the original Crouching Tiger dvd has a sometimes very grainy picture and If the superbit version is much better, I would gladly sacrifice the not so great extras.
"F*ck You Van Wilder"- Taj Mahal Baladabad (Van Wilder 2002)

I got Dracula Superbit, picture quality was average at best but not having seen the normal dvd can`t tell if it was much of an inprovment, sound quality was good though with the DTS sound, but at the end of the day i would much rather have better picture and sound than all the extras or ultimately i would like superbit on 1 disc and the extras on disc 2 but i guess the prices would start to be a bit silly
RE: Superbit DVDs. Are they worth it?
huh? does armageddon r 1 have dts soundtrack, thought only the jap region 2 had that......
RE: Superbit DVDs. Are they worth it?
Bloody hell, you`re right. I just checked mine & its only 5.1, I would have bet money that it was DTS, glad I didnt :0)
Sorry for this miss use of the info
RE: Superbit DVDs. Are they worth it?
Just received and watched Charlies Angels Superbit, very impressed with the picture and DTS sound quality, I will definitely be buying more.
Im one of those rare breed that doesn`t care for extras so suits me down to the ground ..
I might try one of these Superbit titles meself now. I`m not really bothered about extra`s either really, tend to watch them once if its a film I really like but I`d much rather have a good A/V transfer. I tend to find `making of` features incredibly dull.
