Anyone know when the chunk of cinematic brilliance that is `City Of God` will be released on DVD in the UK?
Cheers,
CDP
Hi
God knows where I read it (I note this crap down), but it`s coming out July 7th from Buena Vista. I can`t tell you anything but that.
Will.
RE: City Of God
Thanks, chief! Much appreciated.

Grrrrrrr...!
Looks like the release date for City Of God has been put back to September 22nd. Let`s hope they`re using the delay time to stuff the DVD with more extras.
Salutations,
CDP
I have heard a lot about this film, but have never watched it.
Is it any good?
For me, it`s hands-down the best film I`ve seen this year. It was a bit strange, five days into the new year (which was when I saw this film), realising I`m not going to see a better one for at least 12 months! I`ve heard nothing but praise from other people too.
Big thanks,
CDP

LOL, the exact same thing happened in 2001. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was released on the first Friday - the first release date - and was arguably one of the best, if not the best, releases of the year.
And as for City of God - it has been dubbed as Quote:
The Brazilian GoodFellas. A pretty small compliment then...

Well, City of God is much better than Goodfellas. I too saw this in January. I usually don`t mention this film because people say Quote:
"What?"
But I will buy the DVD. It is huge film, and a great achievement. It is so complex, and there are so many characters. It shouldn`t work, but it does. Also, it has some of the most disturbing scenes I have ever seen, while also being quite hilarious in places. But it has to be seen to be believed. Although Sympathy For Mr Vengeance is also another good foreign film that came out this year in the UK that I would rate as one of the best of the year so far.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, no matter how wrong it is ;-)

Just had a look at the back of the box in my local rental emporium, running time listed as 124 mins. Even adding on 5 mins or so for the frame rate difference, I`m sure this is a few mins shorter than what I saw at the cinema. It`s listed as 135 mins on a film site I just checked, so it looks as though it may be cut. Any one know more?
