According to Total Film, the film is worthy of four stars (out of five).

According to Empire, the film is worthy of four stars (out of five).

It has been described as "American Pie meets Trainspotting", and is another successful adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis` work.

I have no information regarding the R1 DVD, sorry.

I`d wait a while if you`re a completist - The R1 version is the R rated US cut of the film. The version thats coming out in cinema`s over here is the International uncut version. I read somewhere yesterday (god knows where, I read too much trivial info on a daily basis) that the international version will turn up on DVD in a rerelease.

Sorry to be so vague but I know I read it somewhere, and that the unrated cut was Roger Avary`s preferred version.

Hope this helps, somewhat.

Maybe you could get your fix of the film at the cinema and wait for the DVD rerelease.

Yeah, I`ve seen it. It`s an interesting movie rather than a great one. It plays clever structural tricks with time & multiple p.o.v., and is probably a more realistic representation than most of the reality of rich US kids` college experiences. James van der Beek is not at all Dawnson`s Creek-ish (this is A Good Thing), but he`s maybe over-compensating. But there`s a great high-speed European travelogue in the middle of the movie.

I think there have been 3 adaptations of Brett Easton Ellis`s novels up to now: Less Than Zero (a truly execrable film), American Psycho (a very good but rather under-rated movie), and Rules of Attraction - which for me is somewhere in the middle.

The dvd is pretty good, with an interesting commentary track.

"there`s a great high-speed European travelogue in the middle of the movie"

This is being made into a film in its own right, called Glitterati. Apparently they have over 70 hours of footage of Victor travelling aroung Europe, and Roger Avary (RoA director) is currently editing it. From what i`ve heard the footage is pretty awesome, so hope Avary does a good job.

Looking forward to seeing Rules, Loved American Psycho and all of Ellis` books.

I got the film last week and I thought it was excellent, but I am worried about the Bateman family, after seeing Patrick in American Psycho and now seeing his little brother Sean in RoA, imagine the parents!!!

What a tacky question - so I`m not going to tell you.

But you do get a full-frontal from hunky actor Kip Pardue...
