Page 1 of Why are Fox being so slow with The Simpsons DVD releases?

All of their other TV shows get prompt, and still good, DVD releases. Yet arguably *the* TV show has had 2 seasons released since summer 2001? And when is season three coming out?

Grr...had to get that out...

According to various sources the third season is being released sometime in May! I reckon the reason it takes so long to be released is because the Simpsons is their `baby` and they like to treat it with the care and admiration it deserves , what with recording audio commentaries , digging out deleted scenes etc!

<peterstaddon> Simpsons does take a long time to develop, but you have to realise that matt and
jim are very involved in the productions and they don`t have a lot of free time with getting the show
out. Season 3 will probably be in May 2003! I know, we would like to get it out earlier as well, but
it is shaping up to have some really cool material on it. As for Malcom, we`ll wait and see how
season 1 sells - looking really good so far - and aim to get another season out in 6 months time.

<peterstaddon> I mentioned earlier that the issue with The Simpsons is that there are so
many people who are involved with the DVD, and they are all incredibly busy working on the
show for the network which has to take priority. We would all like to see the releases out
quicker, but not as you point out if it hurts the quality. The next release is due out in May
2003 and there is already some very cool stuff on the discs that will make season 3 much better.

Another reason is that the TV channels have to `let go` of the rights to a series before they can be released on another medium. This is also why it can take so long for series to get from Sky to terrestrial. With this being a worldwide issue, it can be a while before all the stations release them. I believe India is just finishing their first showing of series 5.

DOH!!!! How long will it be before we have the entire seasons of the simpsons??? The release of the X files dvd box set are alot quicker than the simpsons.
