I own North By Northwest (review coming soon), and am looking to see what other of Hitch`s titles to get.

Rear Window with James Stewart and Dial m for murder are my favorites . I find that films shot in one location tend to be the best .

Check out `Rope`. Bit of an experimental one from Hitchcock, but I think it works fantastically. All the action takes place in one room where a party is being given, following a murder by the hosts that has taken place. The victims body is hidden in the room the whole time and it leads to a great climax. Quite macabre in a way, but this is my favourite Hithcock film and it stars James Stewart who is one of my favourite actors. I recommend it.

Perhaps this explains better:

"James Stewart stars with Farley Granger and John Dall in this highly charged 1948 Alfred Hitchcock thriller that has intrigued fans because of its chilling subject, based on a true story, and its unique `unedited` cinematic style.

Granger and Dall are two friends who strangle a classmate for intellectual thrills and then proceed to invite his family and mutual friends for dinner – with the body stuffed inside the trunk they use for a buffet table. Their former teacher (Stewart) suspects wrongdoing. Before the night is over, he finds out how brutally his students have twisted his own academic theories."

I`m surprised no-one`s recommended either Psycho or Vertigo. NbyNW is probably my favourite, but both the others are engrossing movies.

But Hitchcock is a cinema God, really, so you can`t go far wrong with pretty much any of his movies.

as it hasn`t been mentioned (alhough I`d go for Vertigo and North by NW myself) - Strangers on a Train is a great one!

I agree with Alan. Devito is class in it

`Spellbound` - masterpiece
`Rebecca` - pretty good
`Strangers on a Train` - pretty good
`Vertigo` - average (the part with Madeline was brilliant but everything from the twist onwards was very poor)
`The Lady Vanishes` - below average (`Morse`, `Creek`, `Midsomer`, `Frost`, `Poirot`, they`re all better)
`Notorious` - poor (if you want a noir go for `The Big Sleep` or `I Wake Up Screaming`)

Soprano I think ur thinking of Throw Momma From The Train or something else.

Psycho and The Birds are excellent. The 39 steps also is fantastic. The man who knew too much is good.
North By Northwest is the best.

Richmach I havent seen Rope but since you are rating it so highly and your review sounds cool, I will definetly look into it.

`Vertigo` is easily his richest and most complex work, and it bears repeat viewings very well. `Psycho` and `The Birds` are still flawlessly twisted populist choices. `Notorious`, `Shadow of a Doubt` and `Rebecca` are pretty much masterpeices and `Strangers on a Train` , `Rope` and `North By Northwest` are immensely entertaining.
