Where is the best place to import DVDs from - best selection, earliest releases, best price etc? Any good wb sites?

Also, what does RCE encoded mean to an Aiwa 370 when looking to import R1 (etc) disks?

I have always found www.dvdboxoffice.com to be the cheapest place to buy region 1 DVD`s from, they don`t charge for shipping anywhere in the world.

If you want to search for cheap DVD`s try www.dvdupdate.com they will search for you and find the cheapest place to get the DVD you want from.

RCE stands for Region Coding Enhancement. This is a program put onto a DVD to try and stop upgraded DVD players from playing DVD`s from other regions. If you have a DVD player which selects the specific region when a disc is put in it will still play these RCE discs. If your DVD player is code free (region 0) then you may not be able to play these discs. One disc I know that has RCE is The Patriot (region 1).

Specifically, what about the Aiwa 370 (much talked about on these pages!) - will this play RCE DVDs?

Also, what about the Pioneer 530? I presume it may struggle because it is defined as "multi-regional", but you can also select the region manually.

If anybody knows the answers could they post a reply. Thanks - any help much appreciated!

yes the 370 plays rce discs..mine plays the patriot no probs

dunno about the pioneer but if its manual selection it should have no probs

Do you know if the Hitachi DV-P250 supports RCE discs?

When you insert the disc it will automatically switch to NTSC and start the Disc menu??? but I do not know if it is set as Region 0?????

The Pioneer 530 does play RCE dvds - I checked this with www.techtronics.com before I purchased their modded model for £198 including delivery. Macrovision is also disabled.

Both the players you are looking at are decent - with little difference between them.

The Aiwa plays mp3 discs, but on the whole picture comparisons lean towards the Pioneer - although my brother has an Aiwa and I cannot really tell any picture difference.

If you want to play mp3 discs get the Aiwa - or if you want a branded player get the Pioneer.

BTW the remote on the Pioneer is a bit crap.

I`ve gone for the Aiwa (MP3 bonus), but can return it within a week if I`m not happy with it - then I`ll go for the Pioneer. Arriving Friday...

careful as if you use the player, I doubt if comet will have it back

I was told by the girl over the telephone that I could get a full refund within 7 days - I, as you have, questioned this. She was very specific when she said that, although if you buy a product from a store they will not issue a refund without good reason, if you order from Comet Central and get it delivered (for a small delivery charge) then you can take it into any store, quote your sales number (which indicates that it`s a delivery order) and they will give you a full refund.

Apparently the idea is that if you order by delivery you probably haven`t seen the product work, so have the right to test it first.

Admitedly, if I was to take it into the store after a couple of days for a refund I would probably spend half an hour explaining this to some incompetent 17 year-old member of staff, who wouldn`t know a refund if it bit him on the arse, but I have the girl`s name (written down somewhere!) so am pretty confident that I could get a refund.

I am, of course, hoping that I won`t need a refund!
