is the region 4 mad max dvd the best to get
i think it as dts
if so where is the best place to get it from
thanks
Family Box Office http://www.familyboxoffice.com.au or Ezy DVD http://www.ezydvd.com.au are IMHO the best region 4 suppliers.
Personally, I`d e-mail them to see if the DTS soundtrack is remastered on the original Australian soundtrack, as in the main English soundtrack of the Region 2 version all the actors talk with an American twang - which I found strange and irritating.

I have the R4 version of Mad Max and the DTS is remastered on the original Australian track. This DTS track is also a full blown version i.e 1536Kb/s and not compressed like most DTS tracks.
The Region 1 Special Edition is much better (although there`s no DTS track).
It`s in anamorphic widescreen and has the original Aussie soundtrack in both 5.1 and mono, as well as the truly awful dubbed soundtrack (quite good fun to toggle back and forth between the tracks just to prove how utterly awful the dubbed track is).
It also has an audio commentary, a "fact track" subtitle option and a few good featurettes and trailers.
You can get it for about a tenner at most Region 1 sites.

Dts versus extras. The choice is yours.
I`ve just ordered the R4 version from ezydvd for about £12.50
as I am not bothered much with extras.
thanks for the replys
the r4 on dts sounds great
i think i will be getting this soon
and give it a good blastin
is there any reason why it is full bit rate and not compressed like most?
I believe it is to impress prospective buyers.
Contrary to what has been said, a 1536kb/s dts soundtrack
is still compressed. An uncompressed track is around 4600kb/s
and that is too much to fit onto a dvd with its limited capacity.
Why some people say that 1536kb/s is uncompressed is because thats the maximum ammount of movie sound data you can place on a single dvd disc.
There are also leagal issues too regarding any uncompressed data
transfers due to copyright reasons as in the case of Dvd-Audio and
SACD discs where the digital source has to be converted into analogue
signals to prevent people making perfect sound recordings onto another
digital source.
A 1536kb/s dts soundtrack is the best you can get on dvd at the
moment and if the mix is done well ( and that is a big IF ) then it
should sound awesome but so do a lot of dts soundtracks that are
transfered at the lower bit-rate.
I personally can`t wait to hear what Mad Max sounds like though!
thanks for the info
