24 (region 1) problems

MOJ (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 9th December 2002, 10:36

Hello.

I ordered 24 (region 1) from CDWow a few weeks ago.

Recieved fine, but discs 3 and 4 won`t load up. It plays the FBI warning and the Fox logo - but after that the screen goes blank, and the DVD counter freezes on 00.06, and will not stop, play, skip, advance chapters, or anything in a similar vein. Only thing it does is `eject`, which isn`t terribly condusive to viewing, really. It won`t play either on the multiregion setting, or the R1 Only setting. If you try to skip BACK a chapter, the Fox `This disc is not formatted for play on your region` screen comes up - not the DVD player`s `Invalid Region` message, but a Fox screen, with a big out of focus logo in the background and everything.

I sent back in case it was a faulty two discs - but the replacement has the exact same problem.

This happens on my Proline 2000 DVD player, but works PERFECTLY on my PS2 (with Region X disc hack thing).

All other Fox DVD`s I have (R1 Simpsons seasons 1 and 2, R1 Buffy Season 1, R2 Futurama seasons 1 and 2), work perfectly on that player.

Anyone else encountered similar problems?

I sent back to CDWow, who sent me a replacement, which then didn`t work again. Oh well.

I have a proline 1000 and it`s getting on a bit now and recently has been doing what you said ramdomly on my disks, sometimes they are fine sometimes unplayable, usually this is when I first put the player on it either works fine straight away or just freezes. The fact that you can play the disks on the PS2 says to me the problem may well be with your player. Certain disks such as the Gladiator or toy story bonus disk will not play on the pro line, only other one I can think of is the Wallace and Grommit one. Sounds wierd that it`s only two disks, I always find that if you press stop once so the screen goes blue then press menu it should take you directly to the menu screen by passing the warning and plays okay.
