Region2 DVD COPY

shannonm (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 20th August 2002, 21:01

Hello! Does anyone have an answer to the following???

If you take a region2 DVD, is it possible to copy the VIDEO_TS folder to your hard drive, and then burn a new DVD that will play on a region 1 DVD player? In other words, where is the information stored that the DVD player looks for that tells it what region it is?

Thanks in advance for any comments or help!!!!

Shannon

Not too sure if this is in breech of forum rules, but I recently backed up a couple of my region 1 films, so I could watch them on my laptop on a long haul journey. The laptop is set for region 2 and played the films fine. Perhaps the region coding is held within another folder?
So if it woks from region 1 to 2, I shouldn`t see why it would`t work from region 2 to 1.

Why dont you just backup your DVD to SVCD or VCD....there is software available that will make a near DVD quality backup to play on a DVD player.

You need a program called dvd2svcd,but you will only get the film on one disc if it`s less than 80 mins, unless you use 90 min disc`s of cause. It`s also a slow process as first you need to copy the audio and visual files to you hard drive then you need a program called TMPGEnc to convert them into mpeg2. Try a site called www.cdr-info.com for more advice if you need it the guys there are great.
Hope this helps
