Free new Hub

Snaps (Elite) posted this on Friday, 27th December 2013, 10:18

If you're a Sky broadband customer log in to your account as there a new Hub on offer for free and a subsequent Booster when you let them know you have a dead spot in your house.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

If you sign in it should be right there.
If not give them a ring. I picked it up off Hot UK Deals

As far as I can see the only Free bit is the Wireless Booster

Got the same issues as Ste but got through, the hub is definitely NOT free and up to £69, free to new customers, the extender is free but before the girl completed my order she put me through to fibre tech support to try n fix my issues, that resulted in a new white hub ordered free (!!) but need to order booster seperate cos he cant.

Will try again later, might be cos I'm on iphone or might be the upsurge of traffic hukd and the weather has caused.

Well this is strange as the new black hub is on my account page as free. If I had the time to work out screen shots I'd post it up.
Maybe each account is assessed as to what services you've got and length of time you've been with them? Only thing I can think of.

This is the Hot Uk Deals link.
Maybe trawl through the comments and see if you can figure out from there

Think this is a new customer/retention due to length of contact offer.
It's £69 on my page but the booster is free, an it did let me add it once I switched to the desktop.
(Odd though, it brought up a "Beta Shop" with the option to switch back, it added the booster anyway even though no email confirmation yet)

Apparently the new hub just combines the old white hub and the BT Infinity modem box thingymajig into one box so no actual benefit to the likes of myself (according to Sky support)

.....except, as I pointed out, one mains plug instead of two, less wires and the reclaming of one of my ethernet ports on the back currently used to connect both together.

Still didn't get the black one though LOL.

managed to order the booster in the end, turned up yesterday which
was a lot earlier than expected.

struggled to set it up due to our router not having a WPS button and
me being a bit strict with MAC filtering. there's a MAC address on the
base of the unit and also on the packaging, but this relates to the wired
LAN port, not the WiFi adaptor built in.

sorted in the end though, the WiFi MAC address is +1 different to the
LAN MAC.

seems to work fine, and unlike regular WAP's you don't have to have
an ethernet cable connected to them in order for them to work.

the box itself is tiny... think AppleTV (maybe a bit smaller than that!).

My new Hub arrived yesterday. Maybe just my impression but things seem to happen a bit quicker. I haven't tried the on demand TV yet to see if the HD downloads are faster than the 'go and have a three course meal' that they were before.
