Panasonic 32 for £599 or less!

harry66 (Competent) posted this on Friday, 8th March 2002, 11:33

Miller Bros are doing the Discontinued Panny TX32DK1 for £599
Saw one at a local dealer yesterday - £899 for an ex-display one!!

Anyone shopping for a budget 32" Widescreen may want to seriously consider buying this over a cheaper but newer Thomson or Goodmans etc.
All other websites I found are still listing it for £700 to £900.

What Video and TV mag reviewed the TX32DK2 - Dolby ProLogic version and said it was `Practically perfect in every way` (Sept 00)

You can get if for £565 from qed-uk.com (which is miller brothers in disguise - look at the contact address) Plus you don`t pay postage from them.
Does seem a bargain for a 32inch widescreen

QED is where I got mine from.

But the lady said they were down to a last few on the website, but there should still be some available at the local stores.

Umer.

harry66, am I right in thinking that this is not a pure flat tube, although it looks like it from the face-on view of the image? If it is a totally flat screen, did you also get the stand with it? Sorry to be so lazy, but it sounds like a great buy if it is flat with a stand. Thanks. Roger.

I got one from qed when the were £512 - have been really pleased with it. See my comments here http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=211&Thread=64858&Type=1

It does come with a stand (still in the cellar - I had one already to suit), but is not totally flat - only really noticeable "off axis".
Have a look around - there is also a Philips 6006 for around the same price (IIRC) - optional whether you pay for the stand. I was put off by the cureved top, which made placing a centre speaker a pain (mind you, in the end it got mounted on the wall directly behind!).

Roger,

Was at a retail park on Sunday so popped into Currys to see if they had the same set in - Yes and they are charging £899 for it.

It is NOT a Pure Flat Tube. But is ever so nearly flat and is considerably more flatter than things like the Philips W6006 and any other decent model I could see under £900. The main screen area looks totally flat - it is only at the edges that you can see slight curves. I didnt feel I could justify the price increase for that slight improvement. To go totally flat for that kind of price I would have had to buy a cheapo Thomson for around £650 and I would rather have a Panny than a Thomson.

Hopefully mine arrives on Wednesday - cant wait. I bought Rush Hour 2 the other day but I am holding back to watch it on the new telly and Christen it as it were - SAD I know.

The price includes a stand - but I plan to use my IKEA TV Cabinet - just need to check the weight limits.

Looks like they are all gone.
When I ordered form QED last week the lady said they only had a 4 left.
From the Miller Bros website most stores were only showing 1 in Stock.
May be worth ringing the Miller Bros stores in your area direct and asking them.

Harry - you won`t be disappointed - we`re really happy with ours. We have it on the Ikea OPLI (I think) stand - takes the weight fine, is on wheels so you can spin it round and get at the rear connections should you need to, low and wide, with plenty of room for DVD, amp and VCR :)

Happy viewing!

Richard,
Thanks for the comments - rang Miller Bros and mine is winging its way to my home as we speak!
I dont know what the weight limit is for my IKEA - rang them and gave them a detailed description of the TV stand but they could not help.
It is certainly wide enough for a 32" and currently holds a 28" telly. I think I will just have to suck it and see!

I was seriously ready to buy a Philip 6515 or a Thomson for around the £650 mark. Had seen some Panasonics in the local retailers and was very tempted but they started at around £799 for the cheapest 32".
Spotted the DK321 at http://www.totalpanasonic.co.uk for around £650 - got totally excited, rang them only to find they had all sold out.
When back to deciding between the Philips and Thomson and then spotted them Panny again at some website for £699. Got excited again, rang them - sold out.
Decided to buy the Philips, was checking prices, went to QED - saw the Panny - didnt get excited, rang the number and YES they were in stock.
WaHeyy!

Will feedback to this forum once I have had a chance to play with it.

Update: 1pm - telly delivered at home.
I want to go home, cant work anymore :)
Cheers.
