Bike now here, looks great. BUT, one small problem, I hadn`t realised that with rear suspension the seat post is much higher. I now have a small boy who is going to have to grow somewhat before he can use his new bike. He`s been fairly philosophical about it so far, has taken to hanging from door frames to stretch.

Yes, I know I`m a numpty, but he had riden a number of rented 24" bikes on holiday, and I just hadn`t noticed the difference in height when you add suspension. Aaargh.

It`s not the suspension, it`s the frame size...you can get 24 inch wheel bikes with different frame sizes, buy a cheapo one and you don`t get a choice of frame size (they just build the most popular)

You can shorten the seat post if it sticks out of the bottom of the seat tube, just take a hacksaw to it.

I would guess that it has plastic cranks ....you are not going to get much other stuff for £99 if it has dual suspension....better to go for a hardtail so that the manufacturer spends more on components.

Stick blocks on the pedals - my Dad did for me when Ihad my first big bike many moons ago :D

He can reach the pedals, just not the ground.

Yeah, frame size might be bigger than the others he`s ridden, but I still think the principal issue is that on a soft tail the seat has to be higher.

No it doesn`t, the seat height depends on the angles of the frame....you can get a 24 inch wheeled bike with dual suspension and a smaller frame.

I bought my kids 24" wheel dual suspension bikes a couple of days ago, from a shop (SterlingHouse.co.uk ) for £75 each (no disc brakes though!) and saw the same problem with the saddle post, so the shop changed the posts for shorter ones AND gave me the longer ones for when they get a bit taller.
The photo of the one you bought does show a LONG seat stem. Great bike for the price though.
Probably all you need is to pop into a halfords and get a shorter seat stem, or hacksaw it as suggested above.
