8 Re-released Classic Dr Who titles available for £6.99 each at HMV

From July 2nd, 2Entertain will re-release a number of DVDs aimed at bringing the classic series to a new audience.

For a limited period, the DVDs will be available at a lower price and with new packaging. The titles have been carefully chosen as stories that may appeal to fans of the new series, that have not already purchased classic Doctor Who DVDs.

The actual content of the DVDs will be identical to the previously released version.

The eight stories to be re-released are:

Spearhead from Space (3rd Doctor)
Genesis of the Daleks (4th Doctor)
The Hand of Fear (4th Doctor)
Earthshock (5th Doctor)
The Five Doctors (the first 5 Doctors - Kind of!)
Revelation of the Daleks - (6th Doctor)
Remembrance of the Daleks (7th Doctor)
The TV Movie (8th Doctor)

These are already available for pre-order at HMV for £6.99, which is a very cheap way to get these stories if you don`t have any or all them already. Just click on the title to be taken the appropriate page on HMV`s site (I`m far too good to you people :D )

edit: I notice Revelation of the Daleks` listing says it stars Tom Baker. It doesn`t. Unfortunately HMV have confused their Bakers!

Hey Colleen,

I only ever saw Earthshock once, the first time it was broadcast. Do I remember correctly that there were 2 cyberman guards that were having a chat, casually swinging their guns about? Or am I making that up? Maybe I should get the DVD eh?

Absolutely correct Mr Fred.

You could of course still get the DVD. ;)

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

You are right there is a scene where the cybermen are seen to ba having a casual chat. Those cyber guys had nice bottoms as well -no comment!! I`ve just been watching it as I have never seen it!! The 80s were lost to me.

Thanks for the info Colleen as I am trying to catch up on the final 3 Doctors-so many dvds so little time...

Hmm, it seems as if Sue`s idea of "cybersex" is slightly different to everyone else`s :D

There`s also a research assistant with a clipboard seen in the background of one of the scenes in episode 3, although I`m not sure I would`ve noticed her without the information text pointing it out to me. I`m rubbish at noticing those kind of goofs and continuity errors.

I`m probably going to buy Remembrance of the Daleks, although I don`t really care for Sly McCoy`s Doctor.

I think you can watch the whole of Earthshock on youtube if you want, Fred. Some naughty person appears to have uploaded it.

Somebody has also uploaded Fear Her. Don`t ask me why though: worst episode ever.

Ah so many memories....

If you see Remembrance look out for the scene where Doctor Sylvester confronts the lone dalek near the end. It`s very similar (IMHO) to the scene with Doctor Christopher in Dalek....similar in words anyway but not in tension....

Nah, I`ll get the DVD cos I`m good(ish)

I love the bit in Earthshock where a Cyberman slips on the stairs. Excellent!

Just to clarify, I`m led to believe that the packaging and discs will be identical to the original releases but with the addition of a cardboard slip case which carries the new artwork.

Also correct (may just use this to duplicate my R1 copy of TFD with the improved UK sleeve that the BBC issued on its web pages, to better match the rest of the releases).

Five of them are available slightly cheaper at taxfreeshopping.com (a site I`ve not used, so I`ve no idea if they have a good of bad reputation). Anyway, they have:

Spearhead from Space
Earthshock
The Five Doctors
Hand of Fear
Revelation of the Daleks.

All at £6.75 each.
