I bought this item (same price) from Maplin - but returned it.
Plays .avi files (incl divx) well - and has speakers!!!
Problem was that it did not auto-start a picture slide show and I could find no way to slow the default (change every 3sec) speed of picture change.
It looks like only the original Phillips ones do this, plus have an on/off timer - unless anyone knows differently?
Also resolution was fine for video, but not great for digital pics.

Cheers

What was wrong with resolution, this is twice the res of most cheap screens?

Just watch with the resolution - at 720x480 it is in 3:2 proportions but I *think* most digital cameras take in 4:3 - so images will either be stretched or have side bars uness you edit them first to fit the shape/size of the screen.

The Philips ones are the best I`ve seen although I did get an 8" from Aldi before Christmas which has been great (but no on/off timer and max slide time of 10s)

True, but that seems to be the case with a lot if not most of these frames. Easy enough to edit photos to fit tho, I hope. Picking mine up tomorrow.

Yep, there a lot of the cheap ones with even odder ratios. Think the Aldi one I got was 640x480 - t`was for the parents so any editing would have had to be done by me! But yeah, if you`re happy to crop/reframe it seems a decent price.

Mine`s for my dad and all the photos will be supplied by me, grandchildren skiing (his, not mine, although they are mine, just not oh never mind) so cropping will be done by me.

Just spent an evening trying to get an ageing P3 to run XP to give to dad so he can try doing his own photos, notwithstanding the manual for the board saying it would support 512 of PC133, will only run 256 of PC100, aaaargh. XP is running fairly slowly. 533 Processor doesn`t help.
Dual Core Dell with 22" Widescreen for £479 is starting to seem like a good idea.

:/ Not sure why that is struggling then, unless you are trying to run photoshop with 10mp images!

Better still why not make a LCD frame from an el cheapo laptop from ebay, bit of time and patience, little money and hey presto.........

This is the one I made:
