Page 1 of Why order online ?

I have been searching through various web sites/price search engines, for the Green mile. The cheapest (including P&P) was 14 quid and the most expensive was 22 quid! I don`t like to part with my money, so I wrote this one off until I saw the Tom Hanks film in my local Morrisons for 9.99. (inclusive of P&P).

They had loads of other DVD`s for 8.99 and 9.99, so whats the point in ordering online, when you have P&P charges, delays, etc...

I haven`t found a single web site where EVERY DVD is value for money (if you know different I`d love to hear from you).

What we need is an online DVD shop similar to CDWOW.com. This site is great and all CD`s include P&P, and customer service is great.

Paul, it would appear you have not had the pleasure of dealing with Australian suppliers.

Honestly, it`s the first place I look for back catalogue stuff - try http://www.ezydvd.com.au for example - their prices include a tax (GST) which is subtracted from international orders, and you generally get the stuff in three to four working days (they put a lot of UK based companies to shame !)

To check whether the R4 discs are R2-compatible (if you only own an R2 machine), check out a review site like http://www.michaeldvd.com.au

However, like the majority of us here, half the fun in shopping for DVDs is finding absolute bargains all over the place. From stalling on buying DVDs upon release I`ve saved an absolute mint - eg T2 Ultimate Edition R1 £13 from Total Action Universe, ditto Beastie Boys Anthology R0 from DVD Planet.

I don`t reckon a company along the lines of CD Wow would survive ten minutes in the highly volatile world of cheap DVD sales. The nearest we have is Play 247 (http://www.play247.com ) but it seems even they are getting too popular for the size of their organisatio. Shame...

I order both online, and buy locally whenever there are some good offers on. I suppose i am limited to who i can buy from online as i only have a switch card, but i think between Play & Future Entertainment, all my region 1 bargains are catered for, plus postage is included

Advantages of ordering online
1. It is cheaper than the shops (you have to search but everything is cheaper) Green Mile is probably in the play £7.49 wb sale
2. Better Range. You can get EVERY single dvd online unless its out of print. Your local store may not sell the product or whatever.
3. Choice of regions. Region 1, 2, 3, 4. All great in their own right
Some discs are only out in a particular region or a particular region may have better extras features/transfer/sound on a disc

£9.00 + £1.75 PP, better than region 2, its in PAL and has great extras.

Don`t forget ot check out our Danish friends as they offer equally good bargains. However, I would agree that there is no site that offers the best price on all titles - you still have to do the hunting and keep on checking this site for info (as well as other forums).

Don`t forget to check the auction sites like e-Bay, QXL and Yahoo. I picked up 20 R1 titles that I wanted in one go for just over a ton + £5 p&p.

Ive bought about 20 discs off of play and had absolutely no problems at all. The only things I have heard is that items sometimes show as processing for several days and seem to get stuck in limbo but a call normally sorts it out.
