Free Broadband for life!

Ian510 (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 2nd May 2006, 11:50

Talk Talk are offering new or existing customers a Talk3 International Call Package which costs £9.99 per month together with the standard line rental charge of £11.00 per month which has to be taken with them rather than B/T making a total of £20.99. In return you recieve Free Broadband upto 8 meg, Unlimited UK landline calls and International calls to 28 Countries including EU, USA, Australia and New Zealand. There is a one off connection charge of £29.99 to pay. At present I pay B/T line rental + £14.99 broadband charges and then the cost of my calls so quite a saving can be made. I can see no obvious catches and the download limit is a huge 40 gig per month. A good deal or have I overlooked something? Over to you.

The price of broadband is set to drop so although this looks good at the mo` 18 months is a long time...

Apparently they are rolling out 100mg...in Japan because they don`t have BT to slow everything down

Sue, I am not one to champion BT but I think that the major reason for the easy availability of high speed links in Japan, Hong Kong and Korea is the dominance of apartment dwellings. It is relatively easy to run fibre to a tower block and give everyone nice fat bandwidth.

I remember when NTL was £5.00 for unlimited dial up. They hiked the price to £10 with 2 months of me joining up so I would be very sceptical about these new offers.

I will give them at least a year to see how they develop.

For information: Faster broadband speeds in Japan is nothing to do with high rise buildings. It`s simply the fact that Japan have layed newer cables capable of higher speed transmissions. Current cables here are of a lower standard.

As for TalkTalk broadband, it is a deal which requires signing up to another service as mentioned. However, other telecoms companies will follow suit and possibly offer very cheap broadband without signing up to other services so it may work out cheaper if you don`t require the international calling plan.

Agreed, but installing a high speed infrastructure is far more cost efficient in regions of high population density. Of course a major factor is the progressive technologically driven mindset of some of these nations when compared to the UK. I just wanted to point out that there are some logistical reasons for the difference, its not all down to BT`s reluctance to improve the service. Well that is my view anyway.

Hopefully things will change here - though no mention of speed.

Yes it is so much easier installing cables in high rise buildings but even in New York with so many tall buildings they are a long way behind Japan. Places like Singapore is not far behind Japan but Hong Kong still has some catching up to do though as they are based on British technology.

In England it isn`t BT slowing things down. It`s just that unfortuneately we have lower quality cables as they were layed much earlier than the current cables in the Far East.

Careful m8... new can = dodgy.

Sometimes comapnies have the authority to change the contract at amonths notice and you will still be tied into the contract.

If you decide to sign up... read it carfully and whatever you do dont take someones verbal consent... ie its 8mb for life or you wont get charged any extra... Have had lots of BB companies lie i.e tiscali broadband..ask if your always connected.. they will say yes.. when in fact you need to dial through..

unlimited bb we all know is bull...

bulldog...upto 8meg bb...`UPTO` being the key word.

I have found the hard way cheap means bad service and alot of porkies just to sell/meet targets.
