I suspect this will not be a monitor for gamers with a response time of 25ms.... and I am not sure it is a bargain. Inmac seem to have it cheaper - they appear to have no stock but say `usually 4 days` for stock status. Also there is no DVI input which is becoming more the norm.

Although no speakers I`ve been considering :

Samsung 913N

and

AG Neovo F-419

In the 19" range. Both have good reviews and the Neovo has DVI input.

However, in the 17" range I was tempted last night to go for this

PHILIPS 170X5FB

Why? Well there are not many reviews to go off but... it has a different design, half decent inbuilt speakers and most important of all (to me) a zero dead pixel warranty. Still no DVI in though.

If anyone has any other suggestions in the £200 region for a 19" please advise!

[Edit : the F419 seems to be out of stock at all places I have seen that have it for under £200]

I`m not recommending the above suppliers - they are just the ones that pricerunner etc. came up with as the cheapest.

I`ve just got the Neovo - rather nice, certainly for the money. I already have a 18.1" Eizo, and that has better view angles, but now that I have the brightness and contrast adjusted on the Neovo (out of the box it`s too bright so some shades are not visible), it`s pretty good. I got the Neovo from eBuyer.

I have to say that the F419 is a excellent monitor, this is my first LCD well pleased with the image it provides.

Now I know it`s more expensive BUT you get more for your money in terms of spec.

This has pivot software (so you can turn the monitor through 90 degrees) and a fully adjustable stand and 4 USB ports!

However, I have seen some mixed reviews. Has anybody got one? I`ve seen them go on Ebay for this price as I was thinking of buying one.

Searcher, the Dell 1905FP is an excellent monitor (based on a Samsung 193p). Don`t read too much into the mixed reviews as I suspect that these are reviews by consumers (rather than professionals) who do not know what to look out for in a TFT screen. The contrast ratio is its biggest feature due to PVA transistors rather than TN+ although viewing angle will be sacrificed. This also means that it won`t be as good for games as PVA is rather slow (ignore the silly 20ms refresh time).

The usual tests (colour ramps, etc) shows perfect transitions and this monitor approaches the quality of ones specifically designed for graphics work. That price of just under £270 is very good indeed for what you are getting.

Actually I was wrong with my post. It doesn`t come with pivot software. The Samsung 193P does though. So - I need a graphics card that can pivot or some cheap software if I get this monitor (1905FP). I am not a games player so I was hoping to get a graphics card at about £40...can`t be AGP either. Any ideas or software solutions? Thanks!

I am not sure where you can get cheap Pivot software but as far as graphics cards are concerned the fastest sub £50 graphics card at the moment is one based on GeForce 6200 TC graphics. It will use system RAM via PCI X16 bus if it needs it but as you don`t play games then its onboard memory (which most will have) will be enough for Windows applications.

Thanks..(again). I was under the impression that some graphics cards had the facility to do the pivoting but it`s not the sort of thing that`s in the specs as far as I have seen. Previously I had been looking at the Samsung 173P which can be had for about £200 and includes all the software.... so it`s a matter of whether the extra 2 inch is worth having to buy the software or graphics card for.

Yes, the Pivot software is available in nVidia`s and ATI`s graphics software.

Both the 173P and 193P are excellent displays for the reasons mentioned earlier and I can recommend either.
